Also, as Briar Rabbit said, "If you go looking for trouble you will find it."

Cops: 'Bama-LSU argument led to couple's deaths
    Updated: November 10, 2008, 11:33 AM EST

EVERGREEN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an argument over Saturday's Alabama-LSU football game led to the shooting deaths of a couple at a home in southern Alabama.

Prosecutors identified the victims as Dennis and Donna Smith of Brewton. The shooting happened about 7 p.m. Saturday at the home of Michael Williams in the rural community of Owassa.

Williams was arrested and charged with two counts of murder.

Investigators told the Press-Register newspaper in Mobile that Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, called Williams, an Alabama fan, after Alabama's 27-21 overtime win and an argument ensued.

The Smiths went to Williams' home. Investigators said Smith had a pistol and Williams had a shotgun and fired. Donna Smith was a relative of Williams' girlfriend.
  2. Goes over with a pistol to the guy's house, and gets whacked when the guy defends himself - all over football teams. It's hard to imagine anything more stupid. Wonder if the dead wife of the dead guy knew that her husband had a gun when she agreed to go over with him.

But yes, shotgun trumps handgun, definitely.

Huh? There must be more to this story - why would he be charged with murder - he's defending his homestead from gun-wielding aggressors who came to his house.

Because he killed the wife who was no threat.

    'Bama-LSU aftermath turns deadly

    Story Highlights:
    - Authorities say an argument over Saturday's game led to two shooting deaths.
    - An Alabama fan allegedly shot two LSU fans in his home after the SEC matchup.
    - The conference-leading Crimson Tide beat the Tigers 27-21 in OT in Baton Rouge.

EVERGREEN, Ala. (AP) -- A man and woman were shot dead after an argument that witnesses said started over an Alabama-LSU football game, but sheriff's investigators said Monday they continued to investigate the motive.

The Conecuh County sheriff's office identified the victims as Dennis James Smith, 41, and Donna Kaye Hall Smith, 39, of Brewton. The two were shot to death about 7 p.m. Saturday in the rural community of Owassa in southern Alabama.

Michael W. Williams, 28, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder over the shooting at his home, where he had watched the game. He was being held Monday without bond. A sheriff's investigator handling the case did not know if he had an attorney.

An investigator said Monday that people watching the game at Williams' home said the dispute was over the game, which Alabama won 27-21 in overtime Saturday, but an investigation into the motive was not complete. The investigator also said alcohol may have been a factor.

According to witness accounts to investigators, Dennis Smith, an LSU fan, called Williams, an Alabama fan, after the game, and the Smiths then went to Williams' home, where a physical altercation led to the shooting.

Investigators said Dennis Smith had a pistol and Williams had a shotgun and fired.

Authorities said Donna Smith was a relative of Williams' girlfriend.

Relatives of both the victims and the suspect either declined comment or did not immediately return phone messages Monday from The Associated Press.

How do you know she wasn't holding the gun?? Or otherwise an aggressor?

Article says 2 counts of murder BTW, not 1 count.

There isn't enough here to go on to make moral or legal judgements.

That is why we have a legal system where the burden of proof is on the accusor.

Shotgun blasts spread somewhat, even in the shortened distances of a civilian dwelling. That would be my bet as to the second death.

And the burden of defense is on the accused.

In other words, get accused and there goes your life as you once knew it.

    Financially, emotionally, etc., etc.

Between this crap, the 8 year old who murdered his dad and another guy, and the kid with the full auto Uzi who shot himself... gun owners are looking monumentaly bad.
A few more news stories like this and Obama will have all the backing he needs for AWB II.

Idiots enraged, fighting, over a stupid football game.

What do you want to bet that alcohol was also a factor?

I wonder if the overtime game extended the drinking bout into overtime. It said he had a pistol, but it could have been holstered under his shirt or in the glove compartment or something. Just not enough info to have a good idea what went on.
