More demonizing of gun owners . . . .

A man in North Carolina who is said to have had a sawed-off shotgun has been charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction.

Here's the link to the original story.

http://www.newbernsunjournal.com/Details.cfm?StoryID=8302

I am in contact with the reporter. Note, we may take issue with a few of the terms in her story, but don't jump on her. She's a good one. (Not able to divulge the info in public, okay?)

She said she just checked the court docket, and the man was, in fact, charge with possessing a WMD.

Next thing we know, shouting at someone will be a crime of terrorism.

Folks, it's a tax matter. A failure to pay a $200 tax.

>>short shotguns would fall in to the AOW catagory, $5.00 tax not $200.00<<

Many thanks for the correction. I'll pass it along to the reporter.

Who here is really surprised? Smell the wind. In a few years gun owners will be stigmatized as terrorists or people with a social and/or psychiatric illness, or all three. This is the trend. Militancy and political action are essential.

As a taxpaying inmat. . . . er, citizen of NC, I am not the least surprised the code calls a shotgun a WMD.

Always remember, the Second Amendment War is fought over definitions. The sooner we realize it and take corrective actions, the better off we will be.

short shotguns would fall in to the AOW catagory, $5.00 tax not $200.00
Er ...
Take a shotgun, chop the barrel <18" == Short Barreled Shotgun == $200 tax
Build up a "smoothbore pistol" (i.e. no shoulder stock, under minimum bbl/total length) == AOW == $5 tax

Correction:

(c) The term “weapon of mass death and destruction†includes:
(1) Any explosive, incendiary, poison gas or radioactive material:
a. bomb; or
b. grenade; or
c. rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces; or
d. missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter
ounce; or
e. mine; or
f. device similar to any of the devices described above; or
(2) Any type of weapon (other than a shotgun or a shotgun shell of a type
particularly suitable for sporting purposes)
which will, or which may be
readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or
other propellant, and which has any barrel with a bore of more than one-half
inch in diameter; or
(3) Any firearm capable of fully automatic fire, any shotgun with a barrel or
barrels of less than 18 inches in length or an overall length of less than 26
inches
, any rifle with a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in length
or an overall length of less than 26 inches, any muffler or silencer for any
firearm, whether or not such firearm is included within this definition. For
the purposes of this section, rifle is defined as a weapon designed or redesigned,
made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder.

In other words, it's not ANY shotgun, but only shotguns cut down below 18 inches barrel length or 26" overall length.

Sure hope these morons who write these BS laws can sleep at night.

One day, perhaps soon, it's going to get real hot for them.

:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:

Dennis Miller had a good joke on his special the other night.

Paraphrased:

If we kill all the lawyers as the first step in a revolutions we could get away with it... There wouldn't be adequate legal representation at our trial... :D

I cannot believe they lump "silencer" in the same category as "poison gas or radioactive material."

What's next, "Bolt-action assault rifle?"

so if i own a hacksaw...
i am in violation of UN regulations?
my garage is now a weapons facility capable of producing an unlimited amount of WMD.

Cohiba, in someone's twisted pea brain, probably. If you put the gun and hacksaw in the car you got a mobile weapons lab :D Kinda the same way that some radical feminazis think every man is equipped and is in fact a rapist. Skewed world view.

As Keith points out, it's just a dumb wording used in a dumb manner. The NC law is the same as federal with respect to BBl. length. Not saying the feds are right, just the way it is now.

Serbu Super Shorty

You have reminded me of the Serbu Super Shorty. $725 plus $5 AOW transfer tax plus fingerprints, background check, etc. Yum!

If my reading of the NC law is correct then the possession of any amount of radioactive material is possession of a WMD. So that would mean the possession of a smoke detector with its tiny radioactive seed would be a felony. Interesting implications.

nothing new, really - the socialists have been calling shotguns weapons of mass destruction since they got the 'streetsweeper' declared a DD.

<Flapping wings preparing for flight of fancy>

Because of this thread NC's idiocy in the writing of law is now paraded for the whole country to see.

Good work!

Clear evidence of why every law (I repeat, every law) needs to have sunset provision.

It is always much easier to not enact legislation than to repeal it.

<Flight of fancy complete. Wings folded>

In a few years gun owners will be stigmatized as terrorists or people with a social and/or psychiatric illness, or all three.

I don't know about you, but I know more than one person who treats my enjoyment of shooting as a sickness, and abnormal social behavior. ‘Shooting is sick, guns are evil' is just the way US society thinks now. We're fighting an uphill battle, to say the least.
