I have all the usual Glocks, SIGs, HK, Berettas, AR, AK, etc.... I am looking for something different to add just for fun.

I am casually looking at the FN Five-Seven. What is the story of this gun and this seemingly hard to find ammo? How is the quality of the Five-Seven? What is the going rate for these?

Any info is appreciated.

Quality is top notch and now that these are in stores the pistol makes a little more sense.

I'm holding out for the FS2000 however. 5.7x28mm ammo still isn't what I would call plentiful but more manufacturers are starting to offer it.

I've seen several that have sold in the Dallas area. I'm currently trying to talk myself into one, but I'm still trying to justify the cost to myself. I could have 2 or 3 more SIGs for what one costs around here, depending on where I shop.

My primary gunshop carries 5.7x28 for about $40/50 rounds for the ok stuff, not the spiffy high-zoot ammo. If I buy a FiveseveN I do plan on reloading for it, at least for practice ammo. I did get to try one in a nice (leather) Galco holster the other day. The availability of a good holster sure goes a long way toward my interest in owning one.

I've seen what 5.7 does to 'impact resistant bullet proof' acrylic laminates. Yeah, I'm convinced. I've seen the accuracy the pistol (the single action trigger models, anyway) is capable of. I currently carry SIGs as my preferred CCW pistols. The FN isn't appreciably larger, and I'm betting it's as accurate in my hands as my 357sig.

Rabbit.

Does anyone know if us mere "civilians" will ever be able to purchase the "Tactical" version which is DA/SA? I don't want a DAO handgun.

I bought the pistol a couple weeks ago.

With the lack of and the high price of ammo I wouldn't consider buying one unless you have a source of cheap ammo, or you reload.

Ammo costs is the only problem in my mind (especially if this is to be a range gun).

*crawls from under rock*

And the P90's are for sale already

At the price the ammo and the pistol is selling for I would say no.

I've got a couple in stock right now.

On the ammo availability, here is what I'm figuring. There are already several thousand PS90s presold, and shipping has barely even begun. Fiochi is reportedly tooling up to make ammo. If there are guns out there, other companies are going to make ammo for it also. Just a matter of time. I don't think you're ever going to see cheap practice ammo, but probably equivelent to 10mm eventually. Just my wild guess.

The Five Seven that is available right now is actually a single action gun. Not a DAO. In playing with the ones that we've got, the trigger pull is decent for a plastic wonder gun.

I do have several boxes of the fancy ammo, but it is $50 a box.

Personally I don't know about carrying this, because I'm not sold on the effectiveness of the cartridge. However it sure would be a fun range gun. If ammo becomes more available, think of the gamer gun possibilities. :D 20 round mags, no recoil. Zippy little thing should make power factor.

The gun seems to retail for $900 to $1000. I did see them at the gun show this past weekend for $750.

Any time a company discontinues a model and goes to a new one, they usually blow the inventory out to CDNN. Right now CDNN has the original model Five Sevens for a good price. Once those are gone it is going to be the new model only. That is why you will be seeing some sub $800 models for awhile. They will be the one with the big round trigger guard.

I've seen them at shows here for 900 as well. They're really strange. Comfortable in my hand but insanely light. I'd like to run 100 rounds through one just to take it for a test drive. I'm very curious as to how the firearm performs.
