This would be my choice for a medium sized game rifle; relatively light, quality workmanship, proven action, and accurate by all accounts...I'd say it's a real rifleman's rifle.
I picked up a CDL SF 257 a while back and have been very happy with it. Shoots great and is finished quite nicely. It would be a great gun to hand down to your son and a good reason to teach him to how to hand load.
New Winchester Coyote Outback comes in .257 Roberts...Stainless fluted barrel and a sort of different laminate stock.Baught one just before I left.Very nice and smooth, quite accurate out of the box.
Given Remington's rep. lately I am staying well away from them!!!!
i didnt buy the stainless fluted but i did buy a rem.700 bdl. i took it out yesterday to sight it in and it shot pretty good. oh i i didnt get a 257 roberts i got it in a .270
