I'm thinking about buying a chronograph to check the velocities of my reloads. Looking to spend around $100. Any recommendations??

Thanks

Yes, and no I don't have a suggestion for $100. I bought a 35p which was more like 350$ with the tripod and toys to go with it. Well worth the money.

+1 for the prochrono digital. Got one for Christmas. Tried it out with a cheap bb gun and to my surprise it shot 300 fps very consistent. Read somewhere that bb's are supposed to be hard to chrono?

Tried it out with my .222 developing a load at the range. Not nary an error out of 50 chronographed rounds. Next I will buy the cable to connect to a laptop, which will honestly be well worth it, so if you can afford 150 go ahead and get the cable. Otherwise you will have to wait for cease fire if you're at a range to change strings.

Either way you will not be disappointed!!!

No offense, but if you have to ask if You should, you probably shouldn't, not yet anyway. When YOU say I NEED ONE is the right time. Many reloaders never say that and they do fine without one.

I've got one for sale. Almost brand new and only one bullet hole!

Care to make an offer?

The delta Chrony is what I had, and replaced it with the same thing. It was on sale at MidwayUSA last month for 85$.

+1 on the Chrony brand. it is what i have, i also bought it on sale. around the $100 price tag when on sale. @ $100.00, if i shoot it through the vitals, at least it wont hurt so bad when i replace it. if i had paid $400-500 for one, and put a bullet through it right away, i might never replace it.

Cabelas has several in the $100-ish range. I just started reloading about 18 months ago and bought one this fall to check velocities. I now find it to be pretty much invaluable if you're serious about reloading. I don't use it often but will spend a couple hours with one at the range now and again when I work up a load for a new bullet. If nothing else, you can compare what you're getting with what the powder and bullet manufacturers are telling you in their reloading guides.

By the way, I didn't put a bullet through mine but I did hit one of the poles that holds up a sun shade. Pretty easy to do when you're thinking about target placement and forget that there's a chronograph in the way.....

Hmmm, you should probably get one. From what I've seen over the years they make GREAT targets!! :D LOL

Kidding aside, they are handy if you are developing loads.

I'm hoping to pick up a chronograph with a good computer interface - something I can sync with my netbook and analyze right there at the range. Any suggestions?

Handloading without a chonograph is like driving without a speedometer.

I also have one for sale just like the pic above.

Awesome, I was already split between the Chrony and ProChrono Digital. Time for more research. Thanks for the replies
