Hi!

me and two friends are visiting US between tenth of July and third of August. We would love to try and shoot some weapons since the gun laws in our country are very restricted (we are from Sweden).

I have been googling for guns shows but apparantly the only thing you can do there is to trade guns, which we are not interested in.

So do you people know any show/place where you can pay to shoot some different kind of weapons?

We will drive from florida to nevada.

Thank you and excuse my bad english!

Hello. What you're looking for is a gun range that will let you rent a gun and buy ammo. You shouldn't have any problem doing that. Usually at a gun range that has rentals, you can try out a large variety of weapons. Not saying it will be the cheapest activity, but probably the easiest way for you to experience it.
According to this link, it's perfectly fine in Florida: http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/archive/index.php/t-54643.html
Personally, I would call ahead to the gun range(s) you are planning to visit, and make sure it's okay. If you need a US telephone number, get google voice. It's free in a gmail account, and you can call any number in the us for free from your computer.

Gun shows are mostly for buying and trading weapons.

Besides gun stores in FL, when you get to NV, you can go to one of the major stores where they rent full-auto and have a blast (pun intended).

You should be able to do so in TX as well - all you need is money for ammo

Hello and welcome to THR! The advice you've gotten so far is right on - what you're looking for is a shooting range, sometimes known as a gun range as well. Keep in mind while searching that there are ranges that are simply a spot to come and shoot, but offer no actual gun rentals.

Because of this, and because some ranges that rent guns may not be accustomed to catering to non-US clients, you may want to contact the range(s) that you think look promising and explain to them that you're visiting from out of the country and are interested in renting some guns. Most will be perfectly happy to accomodate you, but because of the serious and somewhat convoluted rules gun dealers must follow in the US, some shops may not be comfortable renting to non-citizens. Please understand that such a thing is not likely, but I'd hate for you to plan to visit a particular range on your trip and not be able to get past the paranoid employees!

If you're interested, there are a number of places in Nevada to rent full-auto firearms as well. While often a bit more expensive to rent than semi-auto firearms, machineguns can be a LOT of fun to shoot.

As others have stated, rentals are what you are after. However, if your trip takes you through Illinois, don't even go in to the range/store. In Illinois, you must have a Firearms Owner ID to rent and unless you're a citizen of Illinois, you cannot obtain one.
Have fun and enjoy your visit!

once again, thank you for very friendly and helpful answers! All the links are interesting and I now know what to look for!

Also, it is quite likely that there are many members of this forum who would be more than happy to share the use of their collections if you have specific locations and times.

That would be awesome. We would be very interested in that.

We will fly to ft. Lauderdale on the tenth of july and then drive to Las vegas. We will depart from Vegas at the third of August.

We dont know the exact route yet. We will either drive the closest route (Mobile, Dallas, Albuquerque) or the route that goes thorugh Houston, San Antonio and El Paso. We dont mind some detours.

So if you feel that you live on the way and want to show your collections to three strangers (from Sweden) we would be very happy and thankfull if you would be interested in that. We hope that it could be great fun for both parts.

Please send a private message if you are interested!

Thanks!

There's a huge poster at McCarran airport with a hot(ish) chick holding an M249 SAW, promising visitors the opportunity to FIRE A MACHINE GUN at
the craftily named "The Gun Store." It's within Las Vegas city limits and definitely has a lot of good stuff that tourists can rent and shoot.
The last time I visited, I got the impression that these places practically count on a vigorous overseas clientele from gun-rights deprived nations.

Based on what you're describing, it looks like your route may take you into my neck of the woods- NE Florida. 95 north to I-10 west will take you out to San Antonio. It will also take you through Mobile, New Orleans, and Houston. You'll hit I-10 in Jacksonville. There's a rental range in Jacksonville called Gun Gallery- various guns for rent there. I'm in Saint Augustine, which is just south of Jacksonville ( and BTW, Jacksonville is often known as JAX ). I'm a member of a range here called the Ancient City Shooting Range. They also have guns for rental. I don't know what their policy is off the top of my mind regarding visitors and non-members, but the guys who run the place are very friendly, helpful people.

You may want to do some SERIOUS checking into your route, as it is possible that sme of the current wild fires may force you into detours

Will do, thank you. You guys on this forum are really kind and helpful. We appreciate that alot.

As of now, thankfully, we've had some rain here, and the fires are coming under control. But they could be a factor, so be mindful when you arrive. Forgot to mention that- sorry. I also forgot to mention that there's another option, and that is to take Florida's Turnpike through Orlando ( and I think there's some rental ranges there as well- it ain't all Disney ). The turnpike will take you to I-75, which also gets to the previously mentioned I-10. This could also be an alternate route in case the fires flare up again. Hope all goes well for you when you get here!
