Would anyone have a compatsion picture of a Sig 229 and a Sig 239. Im looking to see just how much bigger the Sig 229 is than the Sig 239 (which is glock 23ish in size)

I think they kind of bracket the Glock 19/23, with the 228/9 being a little bigger, the 239 being a little smaller. May be off on that, though, as I don't have any hands on time with the 239 outside of looking at them in gun stores. I'd say the 228/9 are still small enough to be good size for CCW.

I have both and while they don't seem that different to look at them side by side, where I really notice it is when I am carrying one. The 239 conceals much easier. The 229 still conceals well, but more so in cooler weather. I have a VersaMax II for each gun, so I know the holster doesn't ahve anything to do with it. Both shoot very well and I like them both. If you're thinking about getting one, do like I did and buy both.

AK, in the second pic, there is almost do difference,, are they really that close, or is it ebcause of the camera angle or something like that???

Thanks so much for snaping them, I owe u one

No, they are that close. Maybe about a 1/4" or so. The 229 is bigger, especially fatter, but not all that much. I've always been amused and annoyed with SIG with their designations for their pistols. Full size and compact are maybe only about a 1/2" here and there at most. The only one that really is different size wise is the 230/232, and even that isnt all that different, mostly just skinny wise and weight wise.

I normally carry a 229 year round and its never been a problem. I think its all what you get used to. I've carried basically full size guns most of my adult life and never found them to be a bother. I'm actually more self conscious of my Baby Browning in my front pocket than I am of a 220 or 229 under my shirt.

Get a good belt and holster and you can pretty much carry anything.

Oh, and if you dont already have a SIG and your planing on getting one, you better start making room in the safe. They seem to multiply like rabbits! :)

Oh, and for when they do, holsters can interchange between certain models if you buy right.

AK,

Is your P239 a .40? I have a P229 in .40 and thought about adding a P239, for a more compact option. I was surprised at how heavy the .40 P239 was, and how thick the top of the slide is. Just ahead of the ejection port, it seemed like it was pretty thick. I don't know how the 9mm compares, though.

The standard grip was also uncomfortable - it seemed like it didn't have enough to hold. I also handled an SAS version of the P239. The grip on that one felt much better, but I didn't want a DAO trigger (DAK).

I still may revisit the P239 situation, maybe looking at the 9mm, if it is any lighter, but I would have to find better grips. The ones you have pictured look a lot better. What kind are they?

Thanks.

AK, if your ever in Louisiana, let me know. I owe u a cold one, you've been the best help in the world. it looks like I'm going to look into a 229,,, and no I really dont have any handguns quiet yet.

I've been P239 shoppin' lately, so a little info I discovered -

The 9mm is listed as 2 ounces lighter than the .357/.40... But maybe I the heft is why everyone says the 239 is such a sweet shooter in any caliber.

I noticed the 9mm has slightly thinner slide walls, but I don't think the pistol itself is any narrower - just a beefier slide on the .357/.40.

I think you'll be happy with any Sig you decide on. :)

Roadwild17,

Glad I could help. :)

If you can, try and find a shop that has both, and check them out side by side. Even better if you can find a range that rents them. You may want to look at the 226 too. Its just slightly bigger than the 229, and even a little skinnier, and I find the grip just a little more comfortable. I have 226's too. Like I said...like rabbits! :)

Kestrel,

My 239 is a 357SIG, as is the 229. I believe the 239's in 357/40 are a little heftier than the 9mm's. It's enough of a difference that most holster makers specify caliber for their holsters.

I noticed the same thing with the grip. The standard synthetic grips were to skinny in the palm for me and werent comfortable to me either. I also felt the SAS and liked it better. I looked at both the Nill and Houge grips, and I went with the Houges, mostly due to them being mostly checkered. They were also a little cheaper.

The 239 is a sweet shooter. For a gun of its size, especially chambered in a round like the 357SIG, its very easy to shoot well with.
