I have come to a final thought that after much time I would like to add a semi-auto to my CCW. I was thinking that I would go for a Kahr P9, but after reading all the negative reviews I may end up with a Sig 239 chambered in 9mm. I know that the Kahr is MUH lighter and more thin then the Sig 239 but I am thinking about longevity and reliability.

This being said hat do you guys know and think about my decission???

Which way would you go?????

I am a SIG guy but the KAHR is MUCH smaller then the SIG. The KAHR can be a pocket gun with relative ease. The SIG, not so much.

I love the P239 and with a decent holster carries nicely but it is a bit large.

Chris

The 239 is my go to ccw. Its grip hides better than my G23, due to the angle, and even though its a bit heavier it still carries better. I'll let you know how the Sig carries compared to my new Ultra Carry, soon as its reliability is proven:D

If I cant get all three fingers on the grip, I dont carry it, or even consider it. But thats just me (YMMV)

Probably about the same reliability, but the smaller, slimmer Kahr will more reliably actually be carried - the 239 is *just* a bit big sometimes.

I shot the sig 239 this weekend. Nice gun- shot well, but seemed big to me for a single stack 8 shot magazine. The Kahr is much smaller, easier to conceal and carry in a pocket. If it were me I would go for either a glock or the slightly larger sig 229.

Effective concealment is more a choice of holster and apparel than gun, IMHO.

I think either will work for CCW just fine, the better question is which feels better to you?

If both were the same, I'd go Sig for reliability and better warranty...

But I'm a Sig dealer, so I'm a little biased a
;)

Holster

OK you sold me.

What tpye of holster would you all recommend for the Sig 239 in 9mm?

I have owned and intermittantly carried a P239 in 9mm for about eight or nine years. I shoot it at least monthly for proficiency. It is stone reliable. I have tried four or five different holsters over the years before settling on a Galco Yaqui Slide. It holds the pistol in high and tight and if you have to lock up the pistol to go into some facility that doesn't permit CCW, the holster is almost unnoticeable (since it is more or less as wide as a good stable belt). If I were starting from scratch, I think I might have El Paso Saddlery make me a Yaqui Slide, they seem to be just a tiny bit better in the leather and fit departments (my 1911 YSs are El Paso), but the difference is really small and you can buy a Galco off the shelf and an El Paso takes a few weeks.

Pistols In Holsters

Here is a picture of my P239 in the Galco Yaqui Slide. As somebody in the other thread noted, it probably doesn't hold it as close as a pancake holster, but for me the difference is minimal and the holster is more comfortable. You do need to use a stiff belt, because with the lever arm of the grip above the belt it can sag away from your body on a limp belt. I have found the Filson stitched 1-1/4" Double belt to be the best so far. On the other hand, I live in Arizona, which is an open carry state, so the inadvertent flashing of a weapon or the printing of the weapon through your clothing is not a particular big deal (unless you are stupid enough to carry into some place where it is prohibited altogether, like a Federal building or a bar). The bump on the grip is a Crimson Trace Laser, since I use this pistol when I am traveling as a bedside gun and I don't want to have to hunt my glasses in the dark in a strange room in an emergency. It makes the grip slightly thicker, but not enough to really cause me a problem (as always, YMMV).

This is one of my Colt Governments in a El Paso Yaqui Slide, I think they're a little nicer than the Galco, but it's a pretty small difference. As noted above, since a flash or a print isn't a big deal, I tend to carry the Colt more often than the Sig.

Both the Galco and the El Paso came in russet leather (basically tan) and I dyed them Marine Cordovan (I'm not a Marine, I'm ex-Army, I just like the color and my belt and shoes are that color). The only thing I wish they had done with the Sig is put an external safety on it, but with the decocker, I guess it's safe, I just like externals (too many years of handling and firing Colts, I guess). Either way, good luck and I hope it works for you.

I forgot to add that both of the Yaqui Slides pictured have an opening the back of the belt channel so that you can catch a belt loop and the holster cannot slide back-and-forth on your belt. It took me a while to develop the finger dexterity necessary to catch the loop when threading the belt through the holster, but it works great.

And, as you can see, because the holster is just barely wider than my 1-1/4" belt, if you have locked your pistol in your car to go into some facility where it is prohibited, the holster alone almost doesn't show, so you don't have to take it off (I keep one of those cable-tethered lock boxes in my car for that purpose — they aren't strong enough to defeat a guy with tools and twenty or thirty minutes, but they prevent the smash-and-grab theft).

Ten cuidado, socio.

I carry my Sig P239 in a Don Hume JIT Slide OWB, or a Galco Waistband IWB. Conceals well, balances well, and the slightly larger size of the Sig makes it fit my hand better. The DA/SA trigger means I carry chambered and decocked and don't need to mess with a safety- just draw and fire. I could go to a doublestack mag but I figure if I carried a J-frame I'd only have 5, so if I get 8+1 in something about the same size, great. I have a CCW myself and carry the SIG.

Not bashing anybody at all here when I say this... but as a ordinary joe with a CCW, if I need more than 8+1 rounds to get out of Dodge I did something I should not have done. I can't see needing a doublestack pistol for a daily CCW. Too big, too heavy, too visible.
