Bolt handle latch used to remove the bolt handle when field stripping for cleaning.

The bolt handle has to come out before the bolt itself will come out of the receiver.

The bolt handle is attached to the piston via a slot at the end of the piston. It keeps the bolt carrier group and piston attached.
 
That actually is the latch that allows you to lock the bolt in the rearward position, and release it when it's locked back.
 
NO, it actually isn't.

The bolt catch / hold open / bolt release is on the left side of the receiver right in front of the safety where you can operate it with your free left hand or right hand thumb.

It would make no sense at all to put the bolt release inside the ejection port.

Page 21 of the owners manual if you doubt me.
Page 41 shows the charge handle catch the OP ask about.
