It is really a good gun with good reliability, good accuracy and a good trigger, both DA and SA, right out of the box. The fact that it's R&D cost were cover by a French LE contract and that it was not further developed has kept the current price down and makes it likely the best buy in the Sig line

Meh, I had one. The brass is ejected into your face while shooting. FTF higher than any other Sig I have owned. Overly expensive and hard to find mags. I sold mine and bought a P-250, I am much happier with it. Personal opinion, to each their own.

Marine. This was my 2nd pistol. I love the thing. Everyone can shoot it. Its deadly accurate. It is a tiny bit heavy but i like that in a gun... Its an awesome gun.

It is a good durable service sized poly gun. The DA trigger on it is very smooth. It is a bit longer than the Sig P series guns but the cleanness of the trigger makes it as good or better for some shooters.

The real reason people rave about it is the price. It is good gun at a great price. It is hard to beat considering you can get OTD for under $400.

It has a great trigger, good ergonomics, is reliable, and very accurate. It's a little heavy but that is something I like to combat recoil. It is my EDC.

I had bad luck with the SP2009 that I owned. It was accurate, but it had multiple failures to feed and to eject with three different magazines. They probably worked out all the kinks in the second gen SP2022, but I prefer the Classic SIGs to their polymer models.

What makes this sig special?.....just the price or is it really a great gun?

The new one a neighbor asked me to shoot, shot naturally, fast and accurately every time I pressed the trigger. My definition of a good OOB pistol.

The breakdown procedures were terrible in my opinion. I am used to the P series metal pistols.
I liked the way it ran; but I'm not trading my P239 for one.
The above has nothing to do with the cost, but I do think it's a winner for the money.

They should have made this gun on a subcompact instead of the abortion they call the P250.

There's 2 generations of the 2022....what's the difference in the 2?

There are way more than 2 versions of the SP2022. As 9mmepiphany pointed out the orginal gun was commissioned for a French LE contract. They plan to keep them in service until 2022. They modified the SP2009.

The orginal guns shipped to the French were made in Germany. They had triple serial numbers and German proof marks. Contract overruns made their way into the US in small black boxes with 3 mags a medium and large grip. The gun came with Siglite night sights installed. These guns had the Ifalon finish which is shinny and have an internal extractor and external laynard loop. These sold for around $400.

There were also a lot of triple serial number guns that did not have the proof marks. It is not clear if these were assembled here or in Germany. I have read both. The parts are definately German but the finally assembly may have been here in the US which is why there are no proofmarks. These still came in the small black boxes with 3 mags etc....

All of these guns were being bought up by smart dealers and sold for a decent price. Sig realized that ther was a market for the SP2022. I think this had a lot to do with price point and the fact the P250 stumbled out of the gate.

They then brought production to Exter, NH. They now make all the parts here including barrel and frame. They changed the extractor to an external one in order to capture economy of scale with existing Exter production. They also got rid of the multiple grips and started to ship with a new small slim/E2 type grips with an internal laynard loop. The slide finish is now nitron like all other US production Sigs. The also changed some of the small parts to MIM and the standard model ships with contrast sights and 1 mag. They are selling the mags for $40 a pop which is where they are making their money back on these budget guns. These basic guns sell for about $385 give or take a few $$.

There are also reports of Frankenguns which are parts guns mixing and matching parts from various runs of these pistols which muddy the waters. Most of these were produced here with a mix of German parts and US parts before the US production was fully up and running.

From most accounts the 9mms from both sides of the Atlantic are great guns. There were some early reports of issues with the 40S&W and .357 Sig US versions but the buying public, beta testers, have helped Sig work out those bugs.

The triple serialed German proofed guns are the most sought after. These will sell for about $500 in NIB or LINB condition. Then comes the triple serial numbers without proof marks which will still get you close to $500 used and then the new guns.

They are one of the better values in combat sized/duty sized polys on the market. I own one in 9mm and love it. It is a great truck gun budget house gun IMHO.
