Which would you pick given the details:

Sig P228 West German. Like new. Has short trigger. Six mags.

Glock 19. Like new. Has night sights. Six mags.

Both FTF. Both $600.

Here is the Sig.

I have both and both are good pistols. It's a matter of preference. I prefer the 228 because for some reason I shoot it better.

First of all I would wonder why a used Glock was $600 when I almost paid half that for a new one... I guess 6 mags but still... why do I need 60-90 rounds at one time? It isn't that hard to reload and there is no way in hell I would carry 100 rounds around in my pants while concealing.

The sig is pretty nice. I love my G19 but would probably take that 228.

the 228

it's more accurate and harder to come by...you can always find a Glock 19

i also have both...the 19 is the one i loan out, when they become better shots i'll let them try the 228

have 2 sigs 220 elite .45 and a228 9mm also own a glock 22 no comparison the sig i'd sell my glock any time w/3 mags for that price

Normally I would say the Glock 19. For me its the best 9mm platform. It serves all my purposes.

Don't do sigs. They don't "do it" for me. Never have. Tried to like them, really did but just can't. Great guns but just not for me.

That being said the Glock even with mags (and having plenty of extra mags is a +++) and NS $600 for a used Glock is too much. New does not cost that much and mags of Glocks can still be found for under $20. Now if I could get the Glock for up to $525 then that would be my choice. But $600 it might be worth that but not to me.

The Sig is less common and a W. German model is much more attractive than any of the current sig offerings made in the US.

So I would get the sig for $600 and learn to live with it, I know that I could resell it and not loose much in the process.

For $600 used, I would have to say SIG 228, over the G19. Both are great firearms, but the Glock new with 4 extra mags should run less than $550... at least until the next presidential election.

Two totally different animals. I shoot Glocks better, and prefer the trigger. Sigs are great in SA, but don't like the DA pull & decocker:barf:

Both would more than serve you well, but as the others have stated, The G19 is a bit high in price.

Like new Sig with a bunch of mags is worth more than $600...you are essentially getting four mags free. Like new Glock with six mags for $600 is high. I would pay $550 tops and that Glock better look unfired.

I say the Sig because I like it better (have two of them) and because it is priced better.

If you find yourself leaning towards the Glock for some reason, you need to negotiate the price down some or find another one.

Are you fairly new to pistols? If so, do you have any friends with either of these two or some other pistols you could test shoot to see what you like first hand?

FYI you are comparing a full size (p228) to a compact (G19). The G19 is smaller and lighter than the P228.

For $600 used, I would have to say SIG 228, over the G19. Both are great firearms, but the Glock new with 4 extra mags should run less than $550... at least until the next presidential election.
LOL $550? Not unless you get a LEO discount, and even thats pushing it.

A new G19 with 2 mags is around $490, and thats well below MSRP. Night sights are between $50-$100 (depending upon installation fee), and additional OE Glock mags are between $20-25 ($20x4= $80). $490+$50+$80= ~$620 and that doesn't include tax or night sight installation.

You are getting a fair deal on either gun.

That is not a fair deal on the used Glock. You are overplaying for that Glock by about $100 IMHO.

Used GLocks are everywhere for $450 or so with night sights. 2 used mags are worth $25 for the pair. Even with a transfer fee it should not be more than a $500 deal.

You will be hard pressed to find a Sig P228 under $500 and the additional mags if they are Sig mags are worth $15 a piece. The Sig is not a stellar deal but is the better deal.

All of this is moot if you shoot one better than the other.

I happen to like 'em both, I say take the P228, since nice ones are getting a bit scarce; if that P228 is anywhere near as fine as the one I had, you have a real gem there! A nice G-19 is easy to find anytime.

I once owned both guns. I kept the Glock. Although my SIG was accurate (in slow fire) and reliable, I could just never warm up to its long trigger reach, long DA pull, transition to SA pull and fat grip. I shot so much better with the Glock, right out of the box, as to almost be a revelation.
