Hello all and Happy New Year. I am seeking some input on which of the above mentioned 9's will replace my tried and true S&W 640. The little revolver has been with me 17 years as a backup, off-duty, 24/7 gun. The problem I have now is that I haven't needed to wear a uniform in about 4 years, my primary Sig 226 is just too big to wear all year in soft clothes. The other problem is if I wear only the little Smith I feel a little naked even with a few reloads when I have to go out in the field. My choices are limited to the above (DAO's) so I would like to hear from others about which one you think would be the best as a 24/7 gun. I can always wear the two 9's but unfortunately once I make the switch I have to retire the my trusty Smith. Thanks in advance, Bill

I have 3 sigs including the 239. I like it a lot. No problems at all. It's a good cary gun, imo. I don't have any experience with the other 2 on your list.

A friend of mine just purchased a 239 and I got to hold it and it's very comfortable. I haven't gotten to fire it yet but he seems to love it.

I'm partial to the size, weight, dependability of the G26. Since I bought mine..I have a lot of weapons that sit at home on a daily basis.

I love my 3914. I carry IWB and hardly ever notice it's there. The DAO trigger is pretty good too.

I don't shoot semi-autos much and while a J frame is fine for me to carry I can understand your need to carry something with a larger capacity and the ability to reload quickly. I hate to say this but Glocks are very reliable and will serve you well. I don't know anything about the Smith you mentioned so I can't comment on it.

Pulled the trigger and put a deposit on a Sig 239 this morning. The shop I went to had all the models so I got to compare them closely. The Sig felt like a small version of my 226, controls and trigger are very familiar as well as the sight picture. I figured this is a good thing. It is a small bit larger (not much) than the other two but still felt compact to me. The Smith was a very nice trim gun with a nice balance but the controls did not feel right, liked the Novak sights. The Glock had the advantage of highest capacity and lowest price but felt blocky and it did not feel good in my hand, nothing against it but it did not turn me on. I didn't surprise myself by picking the Sig, I went through the same process when I chose a duty gun years ago, same choices, Smith, Glock and Sig. There was a reason I have the 226. Another thought was that my 226 has about 10,000 rounds through it to date. It has never come close to malfunctioning, still the original magazines. Thanks for all the input, Bill

After all those years of shooting a Sig there's no wonder why you would choose it again. I'm anxious to see it... (hopefully soon...lol)

Good choice

I'm not surprised that you went with the Sig P239, given your years of Sig P226 ownership. My P239 has operated perfectly since I got it, and it is very compact and easy to conceal.

Update. I got a call from my dealer last night telling me that he had taken in a very gently used P239 and thought I might want to take a look. Turned out to be as-new, five mags, Desantis + Fobus Holster out the door for $600. Pretty pleased just gotta take it to the dept. smitty to give the stamp of approval. Bill

Good deal

That sounds like an excellent buy, especially with 3 extra mags and the holsters. P239 mags cost about $30 or $35 each, and a Desantis holster is about $60.

JMOfartO:

In the past I've owned a Sig P239, Glock 26, and now I own a 3913, and 3913LS.

Here's my take on the three.

1. The Sig P239 is a fine pistol. The only downsides for me personally were I didn't like the factory grips, and my Sig had the long trigger, which just never felt perfect for my hands.. I could have replaced the long trigger with the factory short one and it would probably have been fine. I replaced the factory grips with rubber Hogues which was a GREAT improvement.. Later I replaced the Hogues with a set of Crimson Trace Lasergrips, and that was even better. :) I highly recommend the CT's on the P239.

2. Glock 26... I had a couple of these when they first hit the market, and they too are fine pistols. Personally I'm a TDA kinda old fart, and I never felt comfortable with the Glock trigger, and the grip ergonomics of the Glock26 left a lot to be desired, for MY hands..

3. S&W 3913 & 3913LS I bought my first 3913 in 1995 when they were first released and were the "darlings of the gun mags", and I still have it. More recently I have bought a nib 3913LS and also a CS9 and I'm well pleased with both of them too.

I guess "old school" is attractive to me as I'm certainly "old school" myself.. I like the TDA, I like the external safety, and the 3gS pistols have a reputation for absolute reliability, and for me in a carry weapon being reliable is JOB ONE.

All three of the above pistols are, IMO, excellent choices.. Each has it's plusse's and minus's and what fits one person might not be another's choice.

Since you went with the Sig, I think you'll be happy as a clam.. Sigs too are exceptionally reliable, and very accurate.

(Not as accurate as say, an HK P7 :D, but plenty accurate for self defense work.)

Best Wishes,

Jesse
