I have a sig P6 that i bought and im newer to guns and cant tell if it has been shot alot or a little. also the is some wear were the slide goes over a notch from the trigger bar, im wondering it that is normal and what i can do to prevent it from getting worse.

here is the notch that rubs on the slide

Here is other wear on the gun

and barrel wear which is in better condition? you cant see in the pictures but why is one of them have the square part of the barrel that is black and the other is silver, the only part that you can see when the gun is all put together?

so overall what condition would you say my P6 is in? how many rounds has been through it?

All of that is just bluing wear that I see. Most of it on the outside of the gun will have come from sliding in and out of a holster - not being fired. The slide itself will quickly wear away the bluing around the moving parts. Those are the parts that will be oiled most frequently anyways so no worries.

I will say that the holster wear on yours is a LITTLE more than usual (still not bad though), but IMHO, nothing to be worried about. If it's just for shooting it's fine. Any gun that you carry and use will show finish wear. The only ones that won't are locked up all the time, but those are no fun :D.

The wear on the bottom of the slide's right hand rail is is unusual, to my eyes. However, I'd just grease the slides rails and see if it gets any worse.

You can usually tell how much a Sig has been shot by the shiny 'smilies' on the barrel - yours look very very minor, as if it's been shot very little or the barrel has been replaced at some point. The external wear on the finish is from storage or carry; it's not a functional issue.

Most of the wear looks pretty normal with the exception of this one.

There is wear on the rail itself. I cannot tell from the picture but if it is through the anodizing on the aluminum frame you could have a weak point there. What color is the bare metal? I would make sure you are properly greasing the rails to prevent further wear.

It is hard to tell if that is just flash or is the finish stripped on the top of the rails? If it is stripped you need to lube that area heavily and watch for more wear. Again it would be helpful to know what color the frame is there.

It is impossible to tell you how many round have been down those barrels. They both show the smiley and bluing wear. I think both have the improved feed ramp and should shoot hollow points well. This would mean they were made after 1989 or have had the barrels replaced after 1989. On some Sigs the bluing on the top of the barrel simply wears more than others. Nothing to worry about.

These Sigs have a lot of life still in them. Enjoy.

The shinny spots in the overhead picture is flash...you can tell by the complementary mark in the middle of the dustcover.

The wear you were talking about, were the slide goes over a notch from the trigger bar, is normal. The bump is the top of the disconnector and it is designed to ride against the bottom of the slide.

The right rear wear on the rails is pretty normal too...as already stated, just make sure to use grease and not oil to lube the rails of the frame

Just recently picked one up myself, looooooove it, it's my yard work gun as I feel it be a bit less showy as the rest, any who back to the topic at hand. Yours looks ok, as everyone else has said, lube very well and enjoy

So why does the gun have that notch there that rubs on the slide, what is its purpose? do other guns have that like glocks and xd's?

also like 9mmepipy said the silver is the flash the only color on my gun besides black is where the notch rubs it. everything else on the slide is black. Thanks guys for checking it out and for you opinions, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

That is the trigger bar which rubs under the slide, it is a disconnector, it prevents firing out of battery.

What wear you have is perfectly normal, nothing to worry about, it looks to me to be shot a little bit. Some people polish the chamber (the "square part" you talk about) silver for appearance's sake.

You've got only about another million rounds left to fire in that pistol, make them count... ( )
