I have been looking at Sigs in .45ACP.
Academy Sports has a P250 in .45ACP for $559.99. I know it has a polymer frame.
They carry, but do not currently have in stock, the Sig P220 in .45ACP, for $819.99. This as I understand it is an all metal gun, and I have heard good things about it.

I am curious what the relative merits of the two are according to THR gun gurus. The 220 is an impressive gun, and I am seriously considering one in the future, but is it really worth the extra $260???
I suppose I should have asked, but there were plenty of customers hovering around and I was not buying at the time; what are the magazine capacities of the two guns?

Is there any reason to believe the Sig P220 will be more durable due to its all-metal construction?

Not sure exactly how it works but the 250 can change into a compact, sub and full with proper parts,MAYBE caliber change too but not sure on that

If money isn't the issue, Id get the 220 over the 250 anyday

Not sure of capacity w/ the 250, but a 220 is 7+1 or 8+1 depending on the mag used

I carry a P250 in 9mm and it has been a fantastic weapon. Others on the board, however, have had bad experiences with the model and ended up selling / trading and wouldn't get another one for anything!

With the P250 you need to spend some time getting used to the trigger. It is long, but breaks when it should and resets accordingly. I happen to like it, a lot, due to the smoothness of the trigger. Others have had triggers that felt like they were grinding gravel.

It's great to carry due to it's size and weight. Lugging around a large frame all metal gun gets old pretty quickly IMO. YMMV!

I also have a P220. Mine is traditional DA/SA and I've not had any issues with it at all. I've never carried it as CCW but wouldn't hesitate to do so. It is also an outstanding weapon.

So, based on my experiences, I recommend either one. They have both "served" me well, so much so that I CCW one.

Re: the pricing, I didn't know the price point for the P220 has gotten that high and the P250 has dropped to the $550 range. Do I think the P220 is $300 "more gun" than the P250: no, others on the board will. Again, I base this on my experiences with both pistols.

The good news is you'll get a great gun no matter which one you get. Somebody will put that sentence in quotes and say "not with the P250, it's the worst gun ever" or some such statement :).

I hope this helps. Either post or PM if you have any questions.

Take care,

Never handled a P250, but I recently traded into a P220 and "wow". It is a fantastic .45. It has that "tank" factor, like a Ruger revolver... its heft and stoutness really inspires confidence. Not that it is necessarily more reliable than a P250 just because of that, but the design, solid materials and workmanship make it seem very trustworthy.

I think the Ruger revolver analogy is a good one here: If you get piece of mind from that "tank" feeling, the P220 could be for you. For example, there are lighter revolvers than the SP101, but I carry and trust it because it feels like a tank and I've tested it hard many times. Whether or I'm naive for thinking that way is entirely possible, but another matter altogether. I carry 7 or 8 different guns, but only my SP101 and my P220 give me that feeling. If you look for that "I could take this gun to hell and back" feeling, the P220 will give it to you.

If carry comfort trumps those things for you, I'm sure you could do a heck of a lot worse than a P250. I hear it is fantastic as well, and realistically, if you're looking at these two guns, you're probably going to be pretty happy either way.

And since you asked: Sig makes P220 magazines in 7 and 8 round varieties. When I carry it, I carry the 8 round with two 7 round spares. As with 1911s, the 8 round magazine sticks out a hair, while the 7 rounders fit flush. I also have the Hogue grip on mine, which increases grip size a tad, but feels fantastic to shoot.

Let us know what you decide, and don't forget pics!

P250 can't TOUCH the p220.... and thats is too much to pay for the p250 even if you are interested.
