A few simple changes/improvements "by you"
...
Yea, Hornady's JHP shapes are a bit on the thin/sharp side vs say, Federal HST JHP's or Remington Golden Sabers JHP's are more full and rounded in shape and feed smoother than Hornaday's..
Get some Flitz Gun Polish, with your barrel out, using a gun pad, with one finger, pressing firmly, working only in an UP and DOWN direction, as the bullet/s feed, and you'll be surprised at what looks clean and the black that you'll take/pick out and then repeat, let dry, then with clean gun pad, same up and down motion only, polish that feed ramp out and you'll be good to go..
This worked for me on my SA EMP 1911's feed ramp and what I wanted to shoot, either 124gr or 134gr JHP's of which I use the 2 brands mentioned above..
Just continue to polish it, takes but 3 mins, any time you clean your gun and have the barrel out..
You can also, using a Q-tip, clean and polish the barrel chamber area stopping just short of where the rifling begins.. It's what I do, did to my EMP 1911 9mm and all my Sigs feed ramps and barrel chambers, now and then. Doing both, make that about 5 mins of time..
But, I'd just shoot FMJ until I had 300 - 500 rounds thru, then I'd start up with finding which JHP's feed/work and those that don't..
You may find that once you polish your feed ramp and barrel chamber, that the Hornady's may actually work well but I'd have a box of either Federal HST's or Remington Golden Sabers, for their full/rounder shape for less chances of feed issues you may still get with the Hornady's you have left.. Cover both makes/types and make the better decision on JHP's.
But I'd break her in more with just FMJ min 200 rounds, first, then do the JHP testing.. (making sure you can at least clean, wipe clean, the feed ramp first) if at the same range session..
