Anyone have experience using one of the newer Simmons handgun scopes on a magnum revolver? I used one in the late 80's - was able to shoot good groups with the scope but the optics were pretty marginal. I used the Simmons scope back then mostly on TC's - in 22lr , 357 mag and 44 mag.

I looked through some of their recent handgun scopes and the optics were much improved over the older model I previously owned. Just wondering if anyone has used a newer one and how satisfied are they with the performance. I want to use a 4X scope for some 50 yard load testing with a S&W 629 44 mag.

I have a Simmons 2X Gold Medal on my Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag. I'm impressed on how clear this scope is and how its holding up while using heavy handloads.

I have a Simmons 2.5-7x Gold Medal scope on my 375JDJ which was at that time the recommended handgun scope for JD Jones and his hand cannons....the Gold Medal's were discontinued and he went to the B&L 2-6x, and then they were sold to Bushnell and he thinks the bushnell 2-6x scopes are good enough for his hand cannons and also the Burris variables and the Leupold straight powers..........I use a Leupold 2x for my 454 casull...most of the handgun scopes now are good enough for just about anything.........

Thanks Longbow and jem! May go ahead and try out the 4X Simmons. Midsouth had them listed for $75 on their website but out of stock for now.

At the moment I have a 2X Leupold on the 44 revolver. I use Burris scopes on my TC's and they are about the only handgun scopes with adjustable objective. But for revolver use thier scopes (Burris) are fairly long and heavy. The 4X Leupold has a very narrow field of view and it is the most expensive 4X handgun scope I know of.
