I *think* I recall seeing a thread here about how to make a field expedient sling out of paracord or comparable cordage. Can someone point me in the right direction about how to go about doing this...

This will be on a Carbon-15 Bushmaster rifle, just need something that I can whip up to get me thru a carbine match tomorrow.

Much thanks!

I remember the thread, it basically involved braiding the parachord like those keychains we all made Mom at Boyscout camp, but I can't find the link anymore.

PERSONALLY though, I'd run to WallyWorld and spend $5 on their cheapest non-padded Uncle Mike's sling.

Personally, I just made a double loop. One to put the rifle hanging straight down my side, the other so I can sling it across my back. You could also rig a "tactical sling" by taking a single length of cord, hack off a length of it, tie it to two points on the longer length of cord, and then use a lighter to melt the lines together so they absolutely will not slip.

Experiment for a personal fit. Wasteful? Perhaps, but 550 cord is cheap. I have a 1200 yard reel in my closet. Never underestimate the usefulness of 550 cord and commo wire.

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to make one of those. I see people with the ones braided into a square and nobody seems to know how it was done.

Houndawg, I learned in the military, I thought I could explain how to do it until I tried... LOL

basically you take 2 equal lengths of cord. lay them on a table in a T. spread out the ends North, South, East and West. North/South is under East/West Then you bring N to S and lay it next to S. Then bring S up to where N use to be... (lost you yet?) then bring W over N and under S. then E over S and under N. Now do this 2000 more times and you have the square cord you spoke of... The hardest part is getting it started...

See I tried...
