single cartridge for multiple "assault rifles" your choice?

Why go to the expense of changing multiple existing rifle barrels, bolts, magazines, uppers, etc. to an uncommon niche cartridge which will be harder to find and more expensive to shoot and in a serious catastrophe will be unavailable? Why not keep your existing rifles as they are or sell some of them and buy a single rifle chambered in whatever niche cartridge tickles your fancy and outfit it exactly as you want it for the intended uses? I like oddball uncommon cartridges as well, but I also have rifles chambered in common cartridges and appreciate their advantages. Standardizing on an uncommon nonstandard cartridge just doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah. +1. Doesn't make much sense to me unless this is some sort of TEOTWAWKI prepping thing. (And in that scenario, a weird, scarce caliber doesn't make much sense to me, either.)
