I'm just learning to shoot a rifle with my SKS, and so far have done so with the stock sights. There appear to be plenty of options for upgrading the sighting system, with plenty of drawbacks.

My shooting will be done almost exclusively at 50-100 yards without a rest. In considering options I've pretty much decided I don't want a red dot or a handguard mounted scope. I'm leaning towards the Tech Sights TS200, but I'd like to hear what y'all think. There are, I know, receiver cover mounted scopes as well as receiver mounted. In considering the TS200, I've obviously decided I can go for $60-70; I'm sure not going to stick a $250 scope on this rifle.

And as always when tinkering with a Yugo SKS, are there any legal issues to be considered?

The Tech-sights are well worth the money. IMHO, they are the single best "upgrade" you can put on a SKS. Not only do they work as advertised, they are also very durable.

No reason not to install them. You can always add scope after the fact if you want to.

The Tech-sight is pretty awesome. It gives you a great peep sight with a longer sight base and improves the use of mine far better. It gives you adjustable windage and distance which is really nice and highly durable.

One of the other nice things is you can adjust the apertures.

For the shooting distances you want I doubt a scope is really needed.

Tech sights are the shiznit. A very good well made product. VS SKS reciever cover scope mounts that range from cheap crap to moderately priced junk.

Get the Tech Sights. A buddy of mine did and has noted that his groups have really tightened up. It will increase the sight radius and allow you to adjust for both windage and elevation at the rear sight.

I can't see how you would still be able to use stripper clips with that scope mount. Also it looks like that scope is so high that it would be impossible to get a decent cheek weld without raising the comb of the stock somehow.

Do ejected casings hit the scope?

Nope, I havent had any hit yet.

This *can* be true. But mine fits real tight and clean. Honestly, I think I got lucky that mine fits so well. I've heard some horror stories regarding various receiver mounted SKS scope mounts.

The scope is BARELY rearward enough to allow the use of stripper clips. But if the scope lens caps are on, stripper clips wont clear.

All the SKS scope mounts I've seen look way too tall to be comfortable for me. I'd go with Tech-Sights, myself.

Ditto that, you'd need a neck extension to see through that ridiculously high scope! Thats ALMOST as stupid looking as those A2 handle scope mounts! I'm still not seeing why the handguard mounted scope is objectionable. Mine is a IER type scope and it's a total pleasure to use.

I'm guessing that you haven't creaked into middle age yet. Perhaps I'm wrong. Nevertheless, a handguard mounted scope would be at a difficult focal distance for me.
