Hey all, new here and hope you can help me out.
I have a Beretta .40 Border Marshall. I have had if for several years but I have only ran about 300 rds through it. My last trip to the range, it developed a very noticiable "hitch". When the slide comes back and cocks the pistol then move back forward, the friction of the slide against the hammer is enough to actually move the pistol in hand. It is only doing it on the last 1" or so of the slide to hammer contact.
Anybody else had this problem? I cleaned the gun very well and it still does it, but not as bad. Is this a case of the hammer not going back far enough when cocked or maybe an area that needs to be smoothed up?

Thanks all,
Wayne

Not quite sure what you mean, is the slide hesitating before returning forward into battery or are you saying its cycling slowly?

If this is the case it probably just needs to be lubricated lightly with gun oil on the moving parts.

If you have friction against the hammer you'll see it where the metal is contacting and the finish is wearing off.

Of course, movement of the gun when firing from recoil is normal. If the pistol is cycling the ammo properly, no jams, and it shoots then there's no problems.

Low powered ammo can slow the slide action down as can dirt or lack of lubrication.

Use a dab of grease on the underside of the slide where it rubs over the hammer. Also make sure the slide & frame rails are greased or oiled.

But I'm wondering if what you are really feeling is a change in ammo?

Ammo that is not feeding smoothly when the bullet nose hits the feed ramp.

Have you switched ammo recently from what you were using?

It appears that the friction point is at the firing pin catch. The top of the hammer as well as that portion of the slide and the catch are now bare.

It is hanging up at this same point when cycled by hand as well. Both the slide and hammer are lubed up.
