Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm

The SW9VE was the first handgun I got and its a pretty good handgun. I got it recently, and the trigger is pretty gritty, but it starts to smooth out, not by much, after 500 rounds or so. While its a very heavy trigger, its an added benefit so you dont accidentally discharge, but when you need it, it performs its duty. My sigma has been very reliable so far, but i'd look into getting something else as a range pistol.

Decided against the trade

After receiving mostly negative comments regarding the Smith and Wesson Sigma, I decided not to trade. Guess I will save my money and wait and get a M&P Model.

I just made another day long venture in attempting to locate some decent ammunition and did not find any, none.

Even the places that had reloads are out and they all have the same story, it is backordered and we have a waiting list for what we get.

My Sigma was easily, far and away, the worst handgun I have ever owned. I'm ashamed to admit it when I was so young and stupid, I knew nothing about what I wanted in a handgun. I thought it looked cool. The front sight FELL OUT. (Imagine Ron White ranting; "It fell off. It fell OFF. IT FELL THE ^@#% OFF!!") I had to have the feed ramp milled to feed ANY ammo. And yes, the trigger is like prying candy away from my three year old.

First generation? SO WHAT. How many generations does a company have to go through to get something right? I STILL have a bad taste in my mouth for S&W autos. This business is too competitive to not get it right the first time. Glock sued them for patent infringement, why couldn't they copy the parts that worked? Even now, an M&P might be fantastic, but I doubt I'll ever pick one up to find out.

Find a used Glock. Or get the Taurus.

I had the exact same problems. It was my first hand gun. Bought nearly new at the gun shop for $250 or something silly. Horrible gun. I tried sending it back through the shop and they told me to try another mag. Not knowing anything about guns, I bought 5 mags on GB. They all worked the same through the gun. We sent it back and they "replaced the barrel". Gun still double fed and had more issues than News Week.

I will never own another Sigma again.

It's funny, if someone has an expensive gun with a glowing reputation from the fanboys, and something messes up, they say "it must be my fault, or the ammo, or the aftermarket mag, or the planets aren't aligned right. Yet if a less expensive gun has issues, they immediatly label it as a piece of crap. I'm sure that there are people out there who have had issues with high end 1911's, Sigs, Glocks etc. Just because the one YOU had didn't function 100% doen't mean every last one of them is crappy. So what if the $300 gun doesn't behave like the $2000 gun, some of us actually have to use our money to pay bills and put food on the table. We can't justify spending $2000 on a single gun. If you can afford it, good for you, but don't belittle the $300 gun I bought with money I worked my butt off to get. Let us enjoy it a little. Do you think I drive an oldsmobile because I want to? If I could I would be riding around in a Corvette. It may not be as pretty, but it gets the job done for less money. BTW I love shooting my extremely accurate and absolutly trouble free Rock Island 1911 straight out the box, while all the guys at the range with high end 1911's are busy clearing jams and missing targets.

BULLSEYE! I have a Sigma 9mm and love it. I carry it everyday and trust my life with it. It is accurate. The trigger can be smoothed out rather easily. Is it as smooth and crisp as a SA? NO. But it is better than my buddies G19 by far. All that for a couple hundred less and basically the same gun. Really the slide, barrel, and frame are VERY similar.

From my gun range reports (By staff), the Sigma doen't fall apart, the Tuarus does. That's only in the last two years.

Good luck!

I owned a Sigma at 3000+ rounds, the only thing that didn't feed was Corbon.

Good luck your life depends on it.

Before we throw around harsh language, simmer down a bit.

I'm not full of it, and have passed on the Sigma after shooting it, and after researching it quite a bit. They are like any other bottom line pistol that any manufacturer puts out. They don't last, and have issues. The 24/7 as stated by others is a better pistol, even though you bash Taurus.

Can you be a bit more specific?

You said, there for it is?

Bad trigger?

Can't take 10,000 rounds?

Is not accurate?

Mag fall's out under pressure?

To ugly?

Or people told you so.

Obvious your an expert, so explain your self.

PS: I own some high end guns (1K++'s), and I'm considering getting another Sigma. I sold my old one to my Bro with 3000 miles.

Why are you so negative against a Sigma?

Because your boyfriend told you so?

This is strike two!

The sigma is NOT a copy of the G19... It is closer to the G17 in size and is definitely heavier than the G19. The trigger is in NO way better than the G19s. My main complaint wasn't the accuracy or failures of any kind. The trigger is just flat out HORRIBLE.

Is it gritty? No... I didn't feel any grit or anything it felt pretty smooth to me but it lacks a distinct feel. It feels like mush till it fires. You almost have to fight it to get it all the way back because you naturally want to tighten your grip because it feels like your index is actually BEHIND your other fingers when it fires. It is hard to keep your finger where it naturally should be because your index will actually be curling back at the end of the pull to where the first knuckle is wrapping around the trigger... at least in my experience it was.

My friend and I had a new Glock 19(mine) and a new Sigma SW9VE(his). He felt my glock was better in every way. The trigger is just better... I know you can smooth the Sigma's out some and you can lighten it but I don't see how it could change it too much. There is no "Pull stop click" like you feel in a Glock trigger. It is more like "pull pull pull pull check watch pull pull bang" and I am not exaggerating... there were times I thought the ammo was just not going off.

The Sigma is not a BAD gun. In my limited experience with it there was no failure, it felt fine in the hand, and it was somewhat accurate. It was harder to shoot accurately because of the trigger though. If you are able to smooth and lighten that enough it may be alright. I really prefer a glock if you can afford it or even the M&P or XD. They cost a little more but start out feeling worlds apart from the sigma. I prefer a gun that has a distinct 2 stage feel to it... The sigma just did not have that.

It almost felt like it was just going off randomly when you pulled the trigger and not like it was actually firing after a certain point. I found it really hard to judge when the gun was going to go bang. It was decent for the money but would be a LOT better with a better feeling trigger on it.

Yo Mama

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you, I was only trying to seriously question your opinion on your ignorance and arrogance in my opinion.

It seems you can't back up what you say online.

Backing my opinion? I don't like them. This makes me arrogant? Are you kidding? What do you work for S&W or something? Go with your sigma and be happy. I'm entitled to say they are a bottom line gun just like other people here have expressed. I said nothing about it not functioning. I'm sure they are fine. I wouldn't get one, and would stick with something else.

I appreciate your appology.

I own a Sigma 9mm. I find it to be a reliable and accurate gun. As for the trigger, you get used to it. It lightens up the more rounds put through it. Great gun!!
