I was at the gun store the other day and somebody was buying a handgun. I overheard him discussing the paperwork details with the desk guy; it was clear that he was new to the gun-buying process. Anyway, I heard him express amazement that he didn't have to register his handguns. "It really seems like you should have to register these things". He was actually asking if there was any provision for voluntary registration even if registration wasn't mandadory. I felt like telling him to move to DC and get out of Montana, but I'm just amazed when I come across people that are so quick to accept chains.

I had a private sale here in VA, and the guy wanted to have a FFL fill out paperwork for our private FTF transfer. I told him that was fine with me, but we did it my way. I sold it to him "on consignment" from my local dealer instead. That way it wasn't mine he was buying, it was "theirs".

Yeah I'm in Bozeman, the transaction in question took place at Ward's. I'm currently looking for a place to shoot, I think I emailed Midvalley gun club but they haven't gotten back with me yet. I just bought an XD45. Apparently the Bozeman Wal*Mart doesn't carry WWB .45 either.

For shooting spots I usually just head up into Hyalite Canyon. First road on your left once the road levels off. Go up the hill for 4 or so miles till you see the field on your left when you come to a big curve.

The range is located on Hwy 90 about 30 miles west of Bozeman at the Logan/Trident exit. Membership is $35/yr and you can pay for your membership and get your card with combo at any local Debos Pawn.

A former resident of Belgrade/Bozeman, The range you mentioned was a great range. The logan range was a great place to shoot and we use to shoot at the old dump that was next to it. In fact, that is where I learned to shoot with my dad. With all of the construction between Belgrade and Bozeman, all of the good prairie poodle hunting is probably gone.

We had a ranch on the East Gallatin River down on Spain Bridge Road. Some of the most fun was whacking gophers on a saturday.

I miss Montana, just wish it hadnt changed like it has.

I had a ex-Cop from Illinois who was thrilled when he found that he didn't have to put up with any of the BS, that people in Illinois have to put up with, here in North Dakota. Though it was funny at first. He was asking us at the gun counter where he could go to get a ND gun registration card and what state paperwork was needed to buy a gun. We where all giving him a *** look until I had the idea to ask him where he was from. When he said Illinois, I knew right away what our problem was. I quickly gave him the 411 on ND gun laws and even told him about our CCW laws. Wow he was happy when he found out that he was in a "free" state. He ended up buying a 10/22 from us for his son.

Coming from the Chicago area, my wife was surprised to find out that we didn't have to register guns here in Virginia, or have a waiting period, or have a FOID card. Her first comment upon going into a gun store with me after she moved here was "Is this legal?" She has since become a very enthuastic gun buyer.

I suspect that people who aren't "into" guns, have no idea what the laws are. Every TV cop show has the cops tracing a gun by going to a registration base. They check the computer and it comes back that "Joe Character" has this gun or that gun. They find a gun at a crime scene and run the serial number and find out it belongs to Sally Shotherman. They go pick up Sally.

I don't think they so much want to accept chains, as they're just afraid they're going to do something wrong and get in trouble.

Yeah, but most of them (until CSI and CSI Miami came along) were set in third world dumps like New York, DC and Chicago.

When you talk to the average person, and EVERY anti, you quickly learn that ALL of their knowledge of firearms comes from "Law & Order/SVU/Criminal Intent/Parking Enforcement, etc."

Sometimes though even the layman knows when they're lying. My friend's wife (whose probable sole contact with a firearm was sitting on one hidden under a couch cushion in my apartment when they helped me move) pointed out that the storyline on an episode of "Law & Order" was gibberish, since if the "assault weapon" featured was so "easy" to convert to full-auto, the BATF never would have approved it for production in the first place.

Then there was the genius in usenet who told me that Glocks were "easy" to smuggle onto airliners because you could disguise the barrel as a "pen" and the slide as a "padlock".

My aunt also seems to believe in this rubbish of gun registration. And this was after someone gave her my dead grandfathers's .38 nickle plated revolver(at the same time I got the Garand) where she then insenuated that my granddad had bought stolen guns!

I was planning on doing all of the above, but I'm having quite a hard time obtaining a gun since I'm not a Montana resident. I have spend $500 on an new .45xd and it's sitting at Action Pawn right now because I cannot take possesion of it.

My favorite California is when they buy an acre or so in the country in CO, WY or MT and then complain about how dangerous it is with the bears and such walking around. It never dawns on them to take RESPONSIBILTY for their safety.:banghead: Sheeple are pitiful.
