Does anyone have one of those new SOG Flash assisted opening knives?

If so, what do you think of it -- pros and cons?

I think it comes with a "safety" -- when carrying this knife, do you really need to engage the "safety"?

I currently carry a Spyderco Endura -- and I'm am pretty happy with it -- do you think the SOG Flash will make a better overall carry knife?

Also, where on the Internet can you find the best deal on the SOG Flash?:what:

Thanks for your opinions...

David,

I recently purchased a SOG Flash 1 knife at a local gun and knife show for $35. I brought to work to show my buddies and the little SOB opened up on me, cut my thigh, and my thumb big time, when I reached into my pants to find what was scratching my leg.

I don't recommend them. You must safety them to carry safely, as my experience has shown. I am not a big fan of carrying mechanically assisted opening knives. Oh sure, they are cool to play with, snap open impressively, but one hand opening knives today are so smooth and easy to deploy, that the mechanical knife has become just a dangerous novelty.

Don't get me wrong, the SOG is a high quality knife. The blade is extremely sharp, razor blade class, and it is very light and strong. I just don't agree with it's edgy ergonomics.

Get yourself a good quality one hand opener. There are plenty on the market. Make it a tip down folder.

My experience with the SOG recently posted:

i have one i carry it now everyday it has never opened on me and i have no need for the safety, i carry it at work, and everywhere else and it never opened...so if yur thumb works correctly you should be fine =)

it came nice and sharp and the SAT opening mechanism is nice and addictive to play with...

id give it a thumbs up

I carry a Flash every day. With jeans I clip it in my pocket with safety off (the blade can't open the way it is situated in the pocket), but at work I carry it loose in my pocket with safety on. I've never had it open unintentionally. I like it.
