So someone replied to a ad I had with wtb guns. He's offering really good deals on guns, but he said he didn't have papers. I asked if they were stolen and he said idk I bought them off the street. I asked if I could get serials then he said they were his cousins that needed cash, now that he bought them on the street. If they Arnt stolen these would be amazing deal since I'm broke. Do I call the cops in his area help!

What are "papers"? If you believe the guns are stolen, you have a moral responsibility to let local law enforcement know.
He's in a different state but I still go to mine? Don't worry I'm having him get the serials first if there stolen he'll be in trouble!

since you have the serial #'s comeing and obviously should know the make and model/chambering of the firearm run it by law enforcement.
who knows if they're 'hot' you may bust open a ring of gun trafficers/ robbers and you dern sure should IMO.

Smells like trouble. You don't want to be broke and in jail too. Besides, adding the FFL transfer fees and shipping may not make the deal so hot.

If he lives in a different state than you, he can not sell them FTF with no paper work....He can take them to a dealer in your state and have the paper work done....If the gun's serial numbers are ran thru NCIC by the police and they come back stolen, they will seize them.

just a face to face sale.

Then you both would commit Federal felonies, whether or not the guns were stolen. Call the police in his state, but I doubt they will be interested.

The FFL should be able to run the serials.
News to me. FFL's do not have access to NCIC. I wish we did, at least for the limited purpose of checking to see if a gun has been reported stolen.

ETA: If you are broke and don't know the laws regarding buying guns, whether in-state or across state lines, why did you post a WTB ad?

You don't have any proof of a crime being committed, thats why.

Contact a local FFL and let him know what is going on. You have to use one for the transfer anyway, and he will be able to advise you on how to protect yourself.

Don't assume an FFL is going to check the serial number on the weapon for you. None of the NICS checks I've ever done have involved giving any serial numbers to the FBI. It's only a check of the buyer's identifying info. Different states may have different requirements, though.

If you want to check the serial numbers, I would contact local law enforcement in his area. That just makes more sense.

I'll echo the others, though, in reiterating that you cannot legally perform a FTF sale unless you are both residents of the same state. He needs to ship the guns to a FFL in your state, and you'll have to pay a transfer fee, fill out a 4473, and submit to a NICS background check.

cuz they have things to worry about other than a guy calling because some guns he MIGHT be buying MIGHT be stolen.
So a remington 700 with bipod scope and a Browning pump pump with scope for $220 does that sound stolen? Him saying they might be stolen that's why your getting a steal."how do they run serials?" If you guys don't wanna help and be rude stay out of the thread. thought you were suppose to take the high road, not so high here. I didn't post a wtb in the next state over.

AND, if more than one handgun is involved in the transaction, the FFL will have to report the multiple handgun transfer to the local chief LEO and ATF.

I'm not sure where this myth comes from, but it is most certainly untrue.

FFLs do not have the legal requirement nor any legal avenue to check serial numbers.

Sorry, that's not how it works. You started this thread asking for help, and we've given you our opinion - as well as explained the law when applicable to your question. You don't get to tell us to go away because you don't like what we have to say.

thought you were suppose to take the high road, not so high here.

On the contrary, everyone here has been perfectly respectful. Nobody's called you any names, or been rude to you in any way. Not liking the answers to a question does not equal non-High Road behavior.

Sorry only a few people actually helped and said something new. I'm not going to pay for something that's stolen so idk why people keep telling me to go to a ffl when he won't even give me the serial numbers. just a waste of posts.
