i am getting a ruger sp101 in a week or two because i need a small ccw and i gust like rugers but the only thing i don't like it is its dull finish and have been reading a little about bead blasting but have only seen 1 pic. and was wondering if you fine people cold give me any more picks and possibly some info on detailed instructions on blasting i have a cabinet but have only used sand so i am not sure of any difference as far as air pressure and prep. work.

Bead Blasting

Hi,
Use glass bead.
The sand or Aluminum Oxide will etch the surface too much.
I set my air compressor to 105 PSI constant.
Hold the gun roughly 8-10 inches away at a slight angle.

You have to completely disassemble everything on the gun. Use Foam ear plugs in all the cylinders and corks in the muzzle and forcing cone. On rugers, I fill the inside of the upper with rags.

Buy or fabricate a parts cleaner because the glass beads get into everything.

It's a major clean up job after you are done. Get lots of pipe cleaners and q-tips. Spray a light lube on everything as you reassemble. After the gun is reassembled function test it. You probably notice some grit...dissasemble the whole thing and clean again.

It will look real nice after you are done but it is labor intensive.

Have a great day!

Bead Blasting

I'm Sorry,
You asked for a picture.
This is a gun that I just built for the up coming Fredricksburg Va. show. It has the glass bead finish

I bought mine from gemini since the pricer of the base gun was better than I could find in Cali...I wanted a fiber optic front sight and an action job anyway, so I also saved on shipping it to them....they also bead blast with their base package...marc also polishes the trigger and pins for a nice accent job....
