Now that's a real custom job.One of mine that Marc Morganti of Gemini Customs and Walter Birdsong of Black-T fame touched.

Are these guns then still being made brand new or are they used only? That's a 6" M629 I just picked up on Friday. I got it from Bud's Police Supply for $681 shipped.
Isn't that the near price of a new Ruger SP-101 in stainless or grey finish? That's a 6" M629 I just picked up on Friday. I got it from Bud's Police Supply for $681 shipped.
The M629 is in production: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...57770_757767_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y and mine was manufactured on 3 May 2010. The price I paid is a discount available to certain people (police, military, security, etc) and the regular Bud's price is about $100 more. I paid $500 for my SP101 local and could have got it for less if I would have looked online. I'm pretty new to the gun buying thing and learning how to get the best value.
These are of a different version with no exposed hammer. DAO only.
The wood inserts on the SP-101 are fine for shooting. For me it's a cosmetic thing and I like the grey finish better. I do notice a big difference when using the Buffalo Bore .357 125 grain ammo RECOIL.so how do wood grips compare to something like a Hogue Monogrip as far as the recoil? I would think they would be less forgiving, but ya never know.
First day shooting a .44 Magnum was interesting.. that thing is LOUD and very powerful. Not as much recoil as I thought there would be, but you definitely knew you weren't shooting a .22 I would absolutely hate to be on the receiving end of it.
Is the SP-101 still available with wood insert grips in gray finish? Or do you have to buy the grips separately now?rd2007
For me the wood monogrip is fine. Maybe not as cushy as the rubber one (i have one of those too) but better than the stock grip. It's bigger than the stock grip and fills up my hand better which helps with recoil.
I agree like I said before I wouldn't mind getting a second one but I want the grey finish with the wood inserts in grip. You can't have to many sp101's.
