speedy loading devices

i am wondering on how well various speedloaders and moonclips for revolvers have held up over years of heavy usage. Logic dictates that were and tear over the years should create issues in cartridge retention.

ps. if you have a revolver using moonclips, how much force is required to pull the moonclip off of a cartridge if you insert the cartridge into a chamber, and then pull the moon clip off?

i joined LE in 1979 and got my first set of Safariland speedloaders in early 1980...i just used them last week and they work fine.

granted they haven't been constantly in use all that time, but they haven't been sitting in a drawer either

I have never seen moonclips pulled off of chambered rounds... EVER.

The moonclip remains in the cylinder with the rounds. It holds the rounds by the cut just in front of the rim. All the rounds and moonclip go in together and come out together. The combined weight makes the rounds more sure to drop in and to eject. No individual rounds to hang up while loading or ejecting.

Pulling the moonclip off the rounds once in the chamber is not a an intended function and would be extremely difficult. Hmm. Let me qualify that. If you have one round on the moonclip and wanted to remove it with the round chambered it would be easy. Two or more would be a problem. Again, the intent is that they are all in together.

Moonclips are used by just about all serious competitors except where they are shooting in a class that requires a speedloader.

All my revolvers have been set up for moonclips and I use Safariland speedloaders for the M66 when the moonclips are not permitted.
