If I were concerned about this load, I'd test it in water -- a Fackler Box is easy to make. It's just a trough, open at the ends with an occasional brace across the top.
You fill it with freezer bags full of water -- so it looks something like a file drawer full of files. It will do a pretty good job of showing you how your bullet will expand, and will give a fair idea of penetration as well.
I like to use a wide flatnose cast bullet in .45 Colt for deer hunting -- anything above 1000 fps seems to work fine.
