Spending tax returns on a gun hobby?

I always get back more than I have withheld due to various tax credits and such that most people without kids don't qualify for.

I don't understand the chest thumping superiority complex guys who go on and on about how awesome they are because they get to break even, or come close to it, every year. Congratulations, no one really cares.

Back on topic, I used my REFUND on a number of things such as car repairs, household items, savings, and a bit of fun money for both the wife and I. Some of what I spent did go toward shooting related stuff.

Just happened to walk into my lgs the day I got my refund. Had been looking at building a 300 blackout upper for one of my AR s, but had pretty much given up the idea for now. Asked if he had anything interesting in. Just so happens he got a DPMS lr308 in just before I got there. Wasn't a 300, but a 308 is better for what I wanted anyway. Got the gun, case ,2 extra mags, 2 boxes of ammo and a 4x12x40 scope for a little over 1300. Didn't think that was to bad. Off course then I had to buy the dies and primers to reload 308. Find those at another local shop. Neither has raised their prices during this madness.

Tell me fellers what is a refund? The last time I got a refund was back in 1985, when I still had a couple of "rug rats" running around, but that wasn't enough to buy a box of shotgun shells after momma got done with it. Thank God I've been blessed.:D

I haven't filed my 2011 tax return let alone 2012!!. Fortunately State and Federal owe me money for both years so I was planning on a Bench Source case annealer, a Nightforce scope (F1) and possibly three suppressors (TITAN-QD, MK13-SD, Ti-RANT) . The AAC suppressors are on back order so it would take something like 10 to 12 months to get them (build time plus Form 4 filing) and I have to pay up front. I'm in the process of selling two or three rifles which would help me to fund the suppressors and other items on my wish list including a Kimber 84M Montana in .308 Win, a .450 BM upper and an XD-S.

I refuse to pay crazy money for anything and don't need to since I have enough reloading components to support a small coup of a third world country. Also, I don't need any more ARs, FALs, M1As, magazines for those or similar, and I'm prepared to wait it out for items on my "wish list" and won't pay a premium for any of them.

Curious whether those who receive tax returns will speed up the gradual collapse of the price bubble, or delay the 'leak' for a bit, waiting for better prices.
Wish that my "Admin. Officer" were to allow it.
I am looking for a specific item (M&P 9mm range and carry kit) and will not purchase untill its available. So while it is being spent on gun hobby it wont be until things calm down anyway

I already used my refund riding the wave just ahead of the panic and will just be paying off what I've already spent.

I am getting a new kitchen:rolleyes:
And, yes I am married.
Happily for 23 years!

Seriously, it is just her turn. I will get a few guns out of this down the road when funds allow:)

All of our refunds are going toward debt, right now, but we just put in offers on a rental property and a potential home for us (putting this one up for rent), so there is a chance the refunds may go toward closing costs or upgrades/repairs on any of the three properties.

Depending on how much I get (haven't done taxes yet), I will probably buy a smaller CCW pistol or more ammo/accesories.

Depends how much I get back in taxes. If I see a steal in terms of .223, 9mm, or .40 I may jump on that. I also might buy a the 870 at my work that's been catching my eye or I may buy a full size glock. If I get next to nothing maybe I'll go through my cleaning supplies and top them off

Reloading dies are on the top of my list. I have only been reloading calibers that I shoot most often. Now because of all of the panic, I think I will start reloading all of the calibers that I shoot.

Going to start a business...or rather, restart a business that's been mothballed since '08. Tax money will let me advertise, set up a catalog, and buy a few pieces of equipment to up my production capability,
