let them "spy!" I say more the merrier and we should welcome these people because we present good facts, good humor, and we are good people (thanks mods!) Maybe some anti will stumble (mozilla firefox add-on?) upon us and maybe ask a few questions and come to the reasonable side of things

I read the forum quite a lot while at work but don't log on unless I'm at home. I don't post a lot either, unless I have some piece of information someone may need.

I lurked for about a year before I joined. Finally I wanted to join the healthy debates, and share the little experience I have aquired since I got involved with the firearms hobby.

Note when I joined. Note my low post count. And I *seldom* bother to log in when I come to read what people have to say, just as I browsed here as a guest for maybe 18 months before I thought I had something to say interesting enough to warrant registering.
Same here.

Former lurker here

I've lurked here for over two years, and even recommended this site to others interested in quality firearms info. I just registered and am now posting for the first time.

As others have said, this is a very insightful forum for those looking for a respectful and generally knowledgable collection of firearm enthusiasts.

At age 30 I am very much a RKBA supporter and also CCW; I also try to make my voice heard through state representatives when related legislation appears. Not many years ago I was fairly uninformed about everything 2A related, partly because of growing up in a pseudo anti household and partly due to sheer ignorance on my own part.

This site has been invaluable in answering my questions as well as addressing questions I never even knew to ask. I firmly believe that as reliable factual information is made available and dispersed, people will form their own informed opinions about the 2A and hopefully about our freedoms in general. So, a big thank you to the membership here.

"Never say anything that you would be embarrassed to have repeated in the presence of your grandmother."

Now, in the case of my grandmother, that left me with pretty broad latitude.

Most forums I normally frequent encourage people to "ghost" or "lurk" prior to joining, it cuts down on new people spamming dead horse topics.

Ok, one more ...

... spy comes in from the cold. I'm just interested in gun stuff - a lot of great information here.

To keep the spies at bay I suggest we only post in binary. 01101100 01101001 01101011 01100101 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101001 01110011

Well, if I wanted to cobble together a paper for a rabid anti professor about how insane pro-gun folks are, it probably wouldn't be hard to grab a few posts from here and slant them so that he'd just eat it up.

Guys, think before you type.

All guests reading this, this is your oppertunity to create an account and tells us why you are here!

I wouldn't expect to see anything like "Hi, I'm Bob and this is my first post. I'm an ATF agent and
I'm just lurking here so I can figure out who to take down first." :D

Welcome friend!

I know lots of people who use THR as a reference even though they haven't registered as members.

Plus a guest could be anyone. It could be some guy who just googled "SIG P-226" or anything else gun related. I found this site when I first joined on a search for information about the Ruger Mini-14.

Personally, I'm not too worried about it.

In my upcoming move to Pennsylvania and no good knowledge on handguns and less on rifles then this was my spot. I know a lot about shotguns but to gain a great knowledge on the other two I read as many posts I could find {google is your friend for this}. I just recently started posting yet I really don't know why I did. I agree that it's a great site ad I'm proud to start interacting.

I get on here a lot at work, where I can't log on. I wouldn't worry too much about having guests here. Heck most of them probably are members or may become one.

I to like many viewed the site some months before registering. I still currently view the site daily and only log in when I want to post a comment. So many of the viewers maybe members just reading a few post before bed or looking for a new thread they may have information on. I am sure some folks are looking for information so they can make up their own mind about people and their firearms or info on a particular product.

If they truly are “Spies” then welcome to the community and if you have any questions please register and ask them, most of us will be willing to answer them to the best of our ability.

I under stand the issue about what we say can be taken out of context. You see it often in the mainstream media. They pick one line out of a 2-page document that gets the message they want across not what the document was about.

But at the same time they say we have a “First Amendment right” to freedom of speech as long as you remember it can and will be used against you in a court of law. I know many of us get frustrated with the politics of the country when you here about possible firearm bans, more hoops they want you to jump through to own a gun. So like most people we come to sites like this with like-minded people so we can vent a little and get a sympathetic ear to listen to us. But the web is an open book no different than standing in a large auditorium and you have the microphone, so we all need to think about what we say because the internet has a big PA system and can be heard all over the world.

Just my thoughts.

The whole point of THR is to present a good face of gun owners. I think we do a good job. Other sites, less so.

I'm not a spy - just a former guest who probably won't say much.
Howdy from me, an Okie in England (I married an Englishman, what can I say?). Gun laws here are very strict as you know, and made worse through knee-jerk laws passed after Dunblane. Of course violent crime went ^up^ after that.

My 17 year old is in the Air Training Corp and has been learning to shoot rifles, and recently has gone out with a friend to shoot air rifles. I think he could shoot competitively, but complying with all the rules and regs make it very difficult.

I'm interested in guns partly because of being his mom, but mostly because over the last couple of years I have begun to realize how unconstitutional many US laws are and although I live over here I am still a US citizen (and would love to move back - to most states though not all) and I want to keep informed and if possible do a few things to keep our rights as citizens.

So don't mind me, I'm just a friendly lurker.

Spies?

Over the years of using the Internet, I've learned that not only is public speaking a great fear, people are afraid to write publicly too, so they watch and read.

:)

Then there those curious as to whether we all appear to be the illiterates that Bob BlissNinny claims we are.

We took the Daughter in Law shooting Friday. She tried Mom's .38 Lady-Smith revolver, and then my 6" Ruger Revolver in .357. So which do you think she preferred? The way heavier .357 of course! :) Go figger!

I just wonder what kind of gun she would prefer in Semi-Auto? She doesn't like the recoil with the lighter .38

From vBulletin's documentation on their website:

A 'guest' is any visitor to your board who is not logged-in as a member.

This could be because they have not yet registered, or because they are a registered member who has logged out.

So, the 'Guest' count is a mix of people who have not logged in and users who have logged out.

I rarely log in since I read more than I post. But, if I log out after posting, the user count drops by one and the guest count bumps up one. You can see for yourself in a low use sub-forum like 'Testing'.

From a quick glance at vBulletin code: If I come to the site and I'm not logged in, even if I have cookies and JavaScript off, I'm counted as a guest, tracked with my IP address.

Don't know how this info affects the perception of being spied upon, but I suspect most are gun enthusiasts.
