I’m planning to get a Gun-Ho/Gil Hebard 4 gun range box.

I want to get a scope to mount in it like the bullseye shooters use.

Anybody here shoot bullseye or know what spotting scope is most popular with the bullseye crowd these days?

I’ll be using it mainly to spot .22 holes during informal indoor and outdoor shooting.

I've looked at Optics Planet at a Kowa 20x with 50mm objective (Kowa TS-501). Anyone have any experience with this Kowa?

I just usually find that those in a certain sport or hobby gravetate to certain proven successful equipment after a while, so whatever the majority of current Bullseye shooters are using is probably what I get.

I use an old Bushnell 20x40 power scope that is more than sufficient to spot .22 caliber holes at 50 yards during the SF stage.

Scopes are like shooters...everyone is different and I haven't seen any consensus on what scope is best, etc., but someone out there may have some more up-to-date info. Most guys are going to lighter and smaller scopes because of weight and the fact that optics have gotten better.

Champions Choice has a good selection of scopes and you might check with Gil Hebard in Knoxville and see what they're carrying these days.

I use a Konus Sports 20x60x80mm scope. It is very bright and clear, especially for a scope around $200.00. I use it for outdoor bullseye and for 100-200 yard rifle. I have no trouble seeing .22 caliber holes at 200 yards if the mirage cooperates.

The Kowa is overkill for BE ($$$!!)...I use the Bushnell Spacemaster "clamshell" design that rotates in 2 directions - fantastic scope! Never have found a bench that I couldn't set the scope sset up on so that I had no foot movement to view the target.

I have the older 15-45*50, the current model is a little higher power - not needed, if you can find the older model on sale ... around $130 - 160 new.

We have 8 Kowa 501s for our junior club. Easily spot 22 holes indoors and to 50 yards. Work OK at 100 yards under good conditions. They are plastic, and need to be handled carefully (don't drop them).

Here's a cool idea that I & a few of my shooting buddies are trying-out. Works VERY well. With Digital Video Cameras quickly making VHS-C format an antique, there's LOTS of the VHS-C Video Cameras showing up CHEAP at Pawn Shops ($20-50). Most have flip-out color monitors (3-4") as view finders & at LEAST 20x zoom capability. You just aim the camera at your target (a tabletop tripod works best), turn up to maximum zoom, flip out the monitor...and spot your bullets impact like you're watching a TV. You can stay in shooting position & just turn your eyes & LOOK at the little screen. It's as handy as it sounds, about half the size of a kid's lunchbox & costs less than a (good) Spotting Scope. And, since you're not recording anything, the battery will usually last a couple of HOURS of continuous use. Longer if you power it off & on. So no power cord is needed. The on-lookers at the range think we're high-tech rich boys. We just laugh & keep shooting.

Ghost Tracker - excellent idea, in a way, this would be the "poor man's electronic (scoring) system" that you see in ISSF matches.
