I am looking at buying a Springfield GI .45 5", Parkerized PW9108L which I can get for about 450 out the door or the Mil- Spec Parkerized PB9108L which I can get for about 520 out the door. The differances I see is that the second pistol is blued, has better sights(worth 70 extra bucks in my opinion) stainless bushing and stainless barrel. I plan on buying one or the other and shooting it for a while, and then sending it to a custom shop as time and money allow. Are there advantages to the second gun besides what stated above, and since its going to go to the shop in a few thousand rounds, should I just save the 70 dollars??? I want one or the other, since I dont have a 5 inch 1911, shoot a 4 inch kimber tac pro 2 at the moment.

Thanks for any help
Matt

The Mil-spec also has a lowered ejection port, bevel on the mag well, and slanted slide pull serrations.

If I were buying one to work over, either would get new sights right away and my FLG wouldn't charge $70 to lower the ejection port. So I'd buy the GI.

But if you are going to shoot it for thousands of rounds, you might do better to get the Mil spec.

I would go for the Mil Spec, and I did, but are you positive that Mil Spec you're looking at is blued? They come parkerized. You might be looking at an older one, or one that has already been worked on.

I bought a (used) parked Mil-spec. replaced the front site w/ dovetailed trijicon, kept the rear site.

Your right on the parkerizing, my mistake, Its different parking than the GI so for some reason I had it in my head that it was blued

I went with the mil-spec. I like the bigger sights (hate the dots though), lowered ejection port, and beveled magwell.
