Springfield Armory 1911s set up for Hollow Points?

I'm seriously considering getting a Springfield Armory Champion or full size pistol in 45 ACP.

Are they setup for reliable feeding of HP's straight from the factory? I'd hate to pay that much for one only to have to send it off to a smith for work. If not I may just get a good Kimber at the next gun show.

if any brand new .45 doesn't shoot any hollowpoint from the factory completely reliably it's probably not worth your money. Any springfield or kimber should be able to do that. If you're not convinced, there a new bullet that you'd like. Federal EFMJ. 200 grain FMJ with a silicon tip under the copper, reliable JHP like expansion through any material it will penetrate.

Excluding competition guns, some of which are only throated for ball, and true "MilSpec" guns with GI-style throats. I'm not sure if any of the current crop of MilSpec guns go so far as to stay true to the original throat configuration.

The Springfield Loaded models are throated for hollow-points.

I owned a Mil-Spec briefly in 1996 and it was throated for hollowpoints...I seem to remember a tag on the gun that listed all the extra features the pistol had like an improved ejection port, slightly-beveled magazine well, throated barrel, etc.

That's good news for me then, although it doesn't quite solve my choice between a SA and Kimber. The only problems is at the shows I see tons of Kimbers and almost no SA guns.

I've had a Series I Kimber Pro Carry before and although it was an excellent pistol, I wasn't 100 percent comfortable with the reliability.

Perhaps I just had a lemon and I need to try one again. Hopefully they will have both types at the show so I can compare them.

If sharp edges bother you, get the Kimber. I hate sharp edges, myself.

Some people say the new Kimber series II sucks. I can't say, the only 1911s I've seen at the range and such were Colts. But frankly, being the cheap little monkey I am, I'd go for a SA.

New 1911's are set up to be very reliable w/ ball & hollow points. I normally test my guns w/ intended ammo for reliability. A pistol may work for one & not another.

My SA Champion shoots anything I feed it.

One tiny caveat...haven't tried any of the 185 or 200 gr exotic HP stuff, though.

Any of the 230-gr stuff works great....from REAL USGI Ball through Win/Rem/Fed HP, and even the 'truncated cone" Winchester Win-Clean.

My choice of loads would be my current carry round, the Gold Dot 200gr +P. This is just my attempt at getting a little more velocity while maintaining a relatively good bullet weight.

It feeds just fine in my USP C, but then anything feeds through that thing!
