I am looking to purchase my first semi-auto handgun and I have done much research about my options. After going to a local gun shop, I found that I really like the way the xd 45 compact feels in my hand and I would like to stick with that caliber. Although b/c of ammo prices, im searching around for a possible 9mm.

Anyways, I digress. I have found out that;

"though some parts can be purchased through aftermarket suppliers, Springfield Armory refuses to sell some individual XD parts. Springfield Armory's position seems to be that with a lifetime warranty that includes repair work, parts sales are not necessary. Because owners cannot keep spare parts on hand, this policy of Springfield Armory essentially inserts a mandatory delay ranging from days to weeks between the gun breaking and the gun working again."

Since they offer a lifetime warranty, thats a plus in my book. Its what follows that bothers me. Has anyone had an issue that they sent their gun off to springfield to get repaired? How long did it take? Was the customer service smooth or a PITA?

This is something that I would def. like to know before I make my purchase. B/c if it is a problem ill go with the Glock 21.

Thanks

I'm on my seventh or eighth Springfield, lost count over the years.

I've never had to send one back, but have heard nothing but good about their customer service. It was one of the reasons I went with a Springfield instead of a Kimber for my new 1911.

It was like pulling a camel through the eye of a needle to get Glock to send me magazine followers to replace the faulty ones in their magazine. I finally got them to do it, but not without a lot of work. They wanted me to send them the magazines, at my exspense.

S&W on the other hand is a joy to work with in regards to their warranty service. :) If it was me, and I was considering a "Glock Type" handgun like the XD or the Block, I would look real hard at the S&W M&P line.

Not only do I consider the weapon, but the after the sale customer support. That counts for a lot in my book.

I had an issue develope with a new Loaded Micro Compact once. All it took was a (1) call to Springfield & they sent a Fed Ex truck to my location with a pre-paid box in which to send it back. In less than a week my pistol was returned to me with; the problem fixed, a new (lower) front sight, a trigger job via their Custom Shop, and a nice, tight test target. I thought I had died & gone to Customer Service heaven. Springfield Armory wants their customers to STAY their customers!

I had an issue with a SA GI. It took two weeks, but that was over the holidays, and it also took a trip into the Custom Shop for a longer trigger and 4.5# trigger job.

VERY Happy. I have again added to my SA collections based upon Customer Service.

I have a Springfield XD 45, and I love it. Great gun. I can't speak for warranty issues, as I've never had any problems with my XD, but if you go over to www.xdtalk.com you'll find a ton of great things about it.

I'd have to check my books, but I shipped one back to them in January, and I think door to door turn around time was about 2 weeks and they sent a check to cover the cost of shipping.

If the need ever arises, whereas you have to send a Springfield Armory
weapon back for repair- just call Debbie in customer service, and she
will handle your problem from there. As a firearms dealer, she is one
of the most polite and courteous persons I have ever dealt with~!

Springfield rocks as far as customer service. Very happy with my 1911s. I'm a Glockhead, but if you like the XD or one of the Springer 1911s, you can buy with confidence.

i have sent one of my xd's back to sa, and it took maybe 15 days, but that is because they had to refinish it, and that i hnk might have been what took the most time. i sent the gun back it was fixed, it was refinished and i had a set of night sights put on for cost. i was very pleased. the gun functioned flawlessly after the return, the finish made for the sexiest xd i have seen yet, which was the deep dark rich armory kote, and the night sights are trihjicons ad you can'task for much more than that.

it was really smooth and one of the many reasons that i continue to own/shoot ad suggest them and the sa comany to others on a daily basis.

parts are comming avaliable more and more as time goes by. check out pistolgear.com they have alot of xd parts avaliable.
