I want *one* more full-sized 9mm with acc. rail, for home defense, and I've always kinda wanted an XD since they came out; never had one. I have had 3 CZs and love them. I'm leaning toward the CZ just because I am familiar with their superb quality, it has 3 extra round capacity over the XD, and a steel frame. But which one will cost more? And is there anything in the XD I can't get with the CZ (other than a consistent trigger as opposed to crunchenticker?). Is variety's sake enough reason to get the XD instead....tough call. :scrutiny:

I like some variation. I bought my XD with Trijicons from the factory. They also have Heinie Tritium Slant Pro's. You can get a stainless slide if you want one but not with the night sites from the factory.

Angus at the CZ forum is selling the SP-01's for $555. I believe the XD can be bought cheaper. The CZ will definitely be heavier. I'm really a big fan of both XD's and CZ's but I would probably lean toward the CZ.

I dont like the XD nearly as much as the CZ. The CZ has a lower bore and better trigger. I also like the Glock better than the XD, as far as plastic pistols go.

If you are just after rail then there are several guns you could get meeting your purpose. The point in the SP-01 is that it offers much more than just an accessory rail. First being a steel pistol with full-length dust cover, it has far more recoil reducing properties than the XD. You would need to compare to a SIG ST, Vertec, Taurus 92/99AR, etc. to get that. The SP-01 has a heavier barrel, night sights, extended beavertail, improved gripping surface, 18 round mags (Angus will soon have upgrade kits to take that to 20), SA/DA trigger, nice grips. I am probably forgetting a few things. The long XD is pretty much just a long XD.

So to me, it is apples to oranges, and the SP-01 wins out IF the extra features mean something. Not knocking XDs as they are fine pistols, but not in the same class based on my experience with them.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. Hmmm, didn't know the SP01 had night sights stock; that makes it easier. In reality, it's not such a close call is it? :p

Oops! Forgot that point. C&L with a pretty good SA trigger ready to go. Mine is a bit gritty, but I suspect shooting will smooth it up. If not off to C-Rums LLC for a nice trigger job. He can make those CZ & Tanfoglio triggers do wonderful things.

Go for the XD-9. No safties or hammers to fool with. I own an XD-40 and have shot an XD-9. The XD-9 was a 4" model and it hardly had any recoil at all - the 5" Tactical ought to recoil like a 22.

I have a little over 1000 rounds through my XD-40 and have not expereinced any failures at all. Gotta love that - took the pistol right out of the box and have shot it bone-stock since then - nice.

Did you see the article on the XD-9 torture test in the June issue of Handguns Magazine? Kinda puts to bed the question of how durable the XD pistols really are. They pushed it harder than Glock did and could not make it fail.

Throw in the lifetime warranty and whats not to like?

Well you are choosing two very good guns and frankly they are both good enough that you cant go wrong with either one. Id say play with them..the real test would be shooting them and getting your choice that way...
But that may be kinda hard......since there are 20 SPO1's in the country presently.......:D
Good luck Shoot well.....

Put it this way...I like my SP01 so much I've been thinking about getting a second one. Amazing gun. Easy to shoot, points perfectly, I can't really imagine a better pistol. My wife even likes the gun so much it's now on her nightstand.

I got an SP01 and really like it...I did switch the sights out for a set of Angus's competition ones..and have some action work on it...very nice gun...

I have been thinking of getting another...but can't decide to get a decocker version or another DA/SA model..

I do not own a XD for a reason. I have shot many of them and do not think they are even on par with Glock, much less the CZ SP-01. I have shot stock and custom XD pistols. They fail to impress me. On the other hand, the SP-01 is an awesome weapon. I am fully confident that in custom form it will begin to rival the 1911 in competition shooting. I just bought one from Angus and its accuracy and trigger are comparable to my gold cup, kimber custom, and Delta Elite Custom. I am switching from my 1911 to the SP-01 at the next shoot. I get to move way down in classes, and am shooting a pistol as good if not better than what I was shooting in the higher classes. The SP-01 does not jam. It will function with 3.2 grains of tight group using a 115 bullet. It can punch paper if that is what you want. To compare the Xd to the SP-01 is akin to comparison of the volkswagon to a Mercedes in my opinion.

I have a SP 01 and a XD45. I like both pistols, but I shoot the XD45 a lot more. I know you are asking about two 9mms.

Both the SP 01 and the XD9 are nice pistols. I prefer the lighter XD over the heavy SP 01. The SP 01 would make a great competition pistol, which is why I made the purchase. For a HD pistol on a night stand, it would work well. I'm not big enough to carry the SP 01, but I'm sure there are some folks that do carry that huge pistol. The 19 round mags are also nice and the night sights is a plus as well.

What I like about the XDs are how well they shoot. Every XD that I have fired has been very accurate. Much more so than every Glock that I have ever owned. I like the grip safety and I like the way it feels in my hands.

I'm sure some will recommend buying both, but realistically I know most are on a budget. I would say SA will have better CS versus CZ's poor CS. I had an issue with my new P 01 last year and CZ could have handled it better. In the end it was resolved properly, but only after many emails and phone calls to CZUSA.

At 1 year, ten months and 7 days, this breaks the record for the oldest thread ever resurrected.

When I decided to shoot USPSA Production division, I had a choice like yours. I already had a XD45Tactical and a XD40 service. I liked them both very much, but decided that I wanted metal frame and manual safeties. I traded in the XD45Tactical and got the SP01 (and a DW Pointman 7 because I HAVE to have a .45acp). The SP01 is a very, very nice 9mm with a lot of capacity. I did my own trigger job, swapped out to thin aluminum grips, changed over to competition sights, removed the FPB, swapped recoil & main springs, and the thing is a machine (it was like that before I modified it, but even more so now). When I decide to get a "back up" for competition, I'll get a tricked out Angus version of the SP01 and make my current one the back up. To tell you the truth, I haven't thought much about the XD after shooting the SP01.

i say go with the xd, you already have the cz's and you will never know how great the xd's are if you don't have one. i have two and love them. yeah i am a little partial to em but they are great handguns that will serve you well. give em a try you won't regret it!
