I just purchased an XD-9 Tactical today and took it right out to the range. After about 40 rounds, the trigger safety began to hurt my trigger finger. I have read posts from people who experienced this problem on a Glock, but not on the XD.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I got an XD in .45 ACP, and have had NO trigger pain at all.

Here are my guesses:
1) is it pressure from the middle safty blade's spring being a little too strong?
2) is the gap in there (between trigger and safty blade) pinching your skin?
3) not to be rude, but what line of work are you in, do you have soft hands? (example: I am a grunt doing landscaping at the moment, my hands are like leather some days)

I also just recently purchased an XD tactical in 9mm

It seems to be the nature of that type of safety mechanism to irritate the pad of your finger a bit as I have the same problem with Glocks and the new M&P series from Smith & Wesson. My XD is not as bad as the other two though IMO and as you shoot it you will develop a bit of a callous to compensate for it. Also your trigger will get a bit lighter and smoother as it breaks in over time. 300 to 500 rounds is generally the point where you begin to notice the difference if your example behaves like mine. It seems that those of us with relatively short index fingers are more prone to this problem. Considering how my pistol shoots and handles I'll live with it. A trigger job can be had for a relatively reasonable cost that will shorten the reset distance for the striker and lighten the pull somewhat so that may be an option in the future. Hope this was helpful.

I picked up an XD Tactical in 45 ACP yesterday; got it off layaway.

A pleasant surprise to me was that this one has the ambidextrous thumb saftey; I hadn't noticed that when I first put it on layaway a few weeks ago.

Anyways, the pistol is very nice. The grip is no wider than my Springfield 1911, and the overall width in the slide is only a bit wider; maybe 1/8" altogether. When fully loaded with 13 rounds, it's still lighter than my 1911.

So far, I'm pretty happy. I'll be taking it to the range Friday to see how accurate it is.

I must have lucked out, have had zero pain or problems with the XD-9. Use it 100% in Canada for defensive pistol shooting every week. Great piece of workmanship. Looking to get a XD-40 real soon.
