I've recently acquired a Star A Super Model, and plan on making some modifications. I'm assuming that it is a "A" model, as it is unmarked, and that is the only model that the Star website lists as ever being offered in 9mm Largo. My questions are these:
1) Are Star factory barrels generally marked as to caliber? Mine is not,
which leads me to believe that the previous owner may have swapped
barrels for a caliber change. That, and the barrel is in almost pristine
condition, whereas the rest of the gun was filthy. The barrel that was
in it when I acquired it is a fairly bright and shiny SS, if that helps in
making a determination.
2) Does anyone know where I can find a FLGR for this model? Mine does
not have one, and the current set-up leaves me less than confident,
given that I plan on converting this weapon to 9mm Luger or 38 Super.
And, no, I do not plan on shooting "full house" 38 Super loads, should
that be the direction I take, but rather mild 38 Super handloads.

Any other insight/advice you can provide as to this model would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Never heard of an older Star with a stainless barrel, it is likely an aftermarket replacement.

I never heard of a FLGR for Star, either. It would have to be made one off.
What do you expect it to do for you to give you "confidence?"

You might consider making sure what caliber the barrel really is before you make any changes. There was a place called Fed Ordinance that offered 9mm Luger barrels for some spanish makes, including even the old 400 / 1921 Astra (a gun I used to shoot 38 ACP reloads in Super cases without a barrel change). Someone may have already started down your road and came up against the same problems you're encountering now.

Jim,
I guess that I'm just a little too used to shooting/working on full-size 1911's with a FLGR. My first thought when I took the Star apart was, "whoa, that looks a little weak." It's probably just a case of negative first impressions. I'm sure that an upgrade to a Wolff spring package would suffice, but I'm so conditioned to seeing a FLGR, that it threw me off a little. Thanks for the info on the barrel. After some thought, I've decided to take it to a gunsmith friend to determine what the current barrel caliber is. As Choctaw said, it may already be chambered for one of the calibers that I'm considering.
