I was thinking about buying a Star Model B Compact for my first carry gun. It's pretty much the same dimensions as a 1911 but in 9mm and much cheaper. The one I'm looking at is a little under $300 and has a beat up finish. I was also considering asking my friend's father to take off the bluing and adding a nickel (or even gold haha) finish. Thanks.

Star pistols are very underrated. Good guns that should meet your needs well.

See if he has spare mags - Star went out of business years ago, so spare parts are hard to come by. They are excellent pistols, Star was a very good gun maker.

I like the way it looks. wouldnt change a thing. I'd put many rounds thru it. Gotta trust the gun if I'm gonna carry it.

Hello friends and neighbors // My Dad has used a Star B as a truck gun for years, he counts on it.

It has also proven reliable with a 14 year old young lady doing the shooting so that is enough for me to give a thumbs up.

Parts might be hard to find but I think he had an extra mag make several years ago.

Yea, I'm a little worried about parts availability but I don't plan on shooting the hell out of it. Maybe a few hundred rounds through its time with me to be comfortable with it. It looks like a solid weapon plus Samuel L. Jackson used one in Pulp Fiction.

The Star is an excellent pistol, I would not hesitate to buy and use one. Extra magazines are available if look for them.

Don't dry fire it. They are great guns, but parts are real hard to come by. I like the safety as it actually locks the hammer back and is very positive.

SMJ used a Star Model B in Pulp Fiction. The pistol you have pictured is a model BM. The BM is a great pistol. I REALLY wish Star would get back into production.

My now deceased Gunsmith great uncle swore by his, my brother in law bought his on my Uncle's word, and has never been unhappy with his.

My Great uncle was keyholeing all day long at 89. If I can only become half as good as he was, I'll be satisfied.

If it's in good shape mechanically, and you really intend it as a CCW, I'd go with a fresh bluing job, shiny is all well and good, but inconvenient if you get a "man with a gun" call because you flipped your coat the wrong way reaching for your wallet at the grocery.

Great shooters tho, I keep them on the same pedestal as the SW Model 10 revolver.

Good stuff fellas. Ok I'm digressing this topic a bit but if I would carry this gun what would some good ammunition be? I'm assuming only hollow points.

Lately I've been partial to the Ranger-T's in my .40. You get 50 to a box for the price of the 20 round stuff. I've had no failure of any kind to date, and you get enough to put them downrange without killing the budget.

Wifey has taken a sudden liking to the Fiocchi HP's for practice, and she carries Corbon DPX in her 9mm Sigma (insert boos and rants against the abysmal trigger here) currently.

I need to get a few more boxes of Ranger Ts and NOT shoot them all up for fun :D

And yes... JHP.

Well as far as price goes I don't mind dropping some greenery for a box of 20 hollow points to carry in the gun. Range ammo is a different story but I want something that can take someone down if need be. 9mm firepower debate aside of course.

I had a star BM years ago in 9mm and it was an excellent pistol..

My brother in law talked me out of it and I have regretted doing that too. Might just get another one-I really like the star guns, as they are well made and reliable and the price reasonable.

Not a b or bm but I have a firestar m43, and it's solid as a rock, possibly one of my best bang for buck purchases to date, absolutely love it
