Been having my eye on a Star Super Model B, at one of the local pawn shops, for the last few months. It was priced at $299 with an extra mag, which is not bad, but not that grate. I was willing to pay $250 but just wasn’t in a rush to buy it. I guess I was kind of hoping that someone would buy it before I did.
Well, last Wednesday I stopped by the shop and was shooting the bull with the owner and told him he should sell me the Star. He Said he wasn’t going to give it away. I told him I would give him $200. He just laughed .
The next day I stopped by the shop on my way home to have another look at the Star. I got it out of the case and walked over to the owner and was about to offer him $250 for it, but thought I would joke around with him a little. I told him that he should give it to me as a Christmas gift, and he laughed.
He then said, well you offered me $200 yesterday and that he could do that if I paid the tax. I said deal.
I walked out the door after paying $221 for my new Start.:)

Nice price for a good pistol! Don't dryfire without a snap cap. Looks to be in very good condition

Gunny.....You stole it at that price! These are fantastic pistols, with many features unavailable on a 1911. Like the take-down lever on the right side of the gun.

good advise. These guns do not have a floating firing pin. With the hammer down, the firing pin will protrude.

I have one in 9mm Largo. I opened up the breech face and I shoot Supers in it. I think the Largos are loaded hotter! The factory supers dribble out of the gun, whereas the Largo's are thrown ten feet away. A nice find!!

I agree with Isudave and tark: you got a great deal on a great gun! Looks to be in very nice shape too. I would venture a guess and say you probably have numerous spare parts and magazines for it somewhere out there in your gun room.

When it comes to buying used guns, I have rules.
#1 Find below market value.
#2 Ask for money off.
#3 Have a set price your willing to pay.
#4 Be willing to walk away, even if the price is only $5 more then your willing to pay.

I think I have a spare mag in my tub of magazines. A while back I was going to order a Model B, but all the surplus dealers were out of them at the time. I ended up ordering a Model BM. It has been a great shooter.
I shot some 115 gr and 124 gr through the Model B on Friday. The 115 gr impacted about five inches low and a little to the left at 15 yds. The 124 gr impacted about two inches low and a little to the left. I'll have to dig out some 147 gr ammo to see how it shoots with it.
My buddy has a Model B that gives him fits with 115 gr ammo. I told him to go to the heaver bullets. He later told me that the 147 gr ammo was the only thing that would feed 100% through his gun.

I do need to pick up some spare parts for both of my Stars. Just have to make a few phone calls to the places I get my parts from.

Nice find. I’ve owned and sold several Star models - BM, B, 30M - but I’m keeping the Super B. It’s ny favorite. Enjoy yours!

Nice deal! That's about what I paid for mine, a few years back. Mine is reliable, accurate, and feels great in the hand. After my friend shot it, he went home and immediately ordered one for himself. Getting such a good quality military-grade pistol for that price is almost ridiculous. Congratulations! :)

I have one I got about two months ago. Looks unissued, made in 1972. Excellent fit and finish. Haven't fired it yet, though. I got it for $250, but it was part of a two-gun deal, the other being a Winchester 94 from around 1967. We had agreed that both would be had for $500 (the Star had been marked $250 and the Winnie $350.) So, I just say each was $250.

I think we will both enjoy our Stars.

Nice pictures, nice gun. I have one also. Tell me Sarge, with 115 grain slugs in the clip, does it look like the clip is about 3/8" longer than it needs to be? MY clip looks like a Largo clip, but that might be normal for the machine. I can send pictures of my clip with a shell in it for illustration. It still functions flawlessly in my B.

I have the same problem with 115 grain ammo too with my Manurhin P1 and Steyr M9. Both 124 grain and 147 grain ammo works fine in them.

I mostly plink with 115 gr bullets, I haven't really noticed whether mine shoots low or not. I look at groups, and left/right. I figure if it's grouping and not off to a side significantly, and not severely up/down, then it's accurate enough, and I adjust how to hold the sight picture. Seems like most of my older pistols put the rds down a little, or slightly obscured by the gun when I am aiming. My Super groups well, and I'm able to hit paper plates at the back of the berm with some effort, better than a lot of other pistols I have.

Sarge. you can see what I mean by the clip being made for something other than a 9X19. There is quite a gap in front of the bullet. Is this the same magazine you got with your gun or is mine the fluke of the bunch? This clip functions perfectly as can be said of the gun as a whole. It eats everything.

Here is the whole shebang.

My Super B magazine is made for 9x19, it clearly looks like yours is for Largo.

I have a Norinco Tokarev, with a 9mm barrel. The magwell is larger (made for the 7.62x25 Tok rd), and 2 of my magazines are regular Tok mags (there's an even larger gap). They function perfectly, as yours does. In various forums. I've read that if you have feeding issues, simply tap a loaded mag against your palm, so that the bullets ride to the front.

I've read a post somewhere stating that in the case of the Stars that are like this, if you have feeding issues and tapping the rds forward doesn't help, the next step is to shoot steel-case ammo... the steel cases aren't as slick as the brass, and when tapped forward, they will stay that way due to higher friction.

I imagine you had a Model A (Largo) frame that was converted somewhere along the lines to take 9 luger , and then stamped "B" at the factory. Basically, all you need to do is change the barrel, I think the extractor and springs should be fine.

Is your ejection port larger than the average 9mm Luger? I ask because going back to my Tokarev, I could fit/extract an unfired Tok rd through the port, whereas some of the later Norincos made specifically for 9x19 aren't long enough for that. With your Star, if your ejection port is too small to fit a complete 9x21 (I think that's Largo) through it, then likely they just paired a 9x19 slide with a 9x21 frame and issued it that way; if it does fit the larger rd, then they likely just swapped out the barrel.

My ejection port is 1 1/16 wide at the side. Frame and slide serial numbers match. No serial number on the barrel. Butt of frame has a large "B" and the word "super" impressed into it. I don't have a largo round to try in my bbl. Right side of slide forward says: Modelo Super. Left side of slide next to the Star logo it says CAL. 9m/m P.
I did not like the plastic grips so I bought some aftermarkets. Sold the original plastic grips on Ebay for $25 instantly. Makes my copy of the gun un-original, but I figured the magazine already covered that part.
Yeah I figured the Largo c***/magazine was something the importer/someone had to have added to make it useable.
This is one of my favorite 9mm automatics because it will digest 900fps ammo as welll as 1200 fps ammo.
All of my P38's demand 1200 ammo to be totally reliable in feeding.
Too bad ya' can't buy these with a C&R license.

If I'm calling someone "Sarge", I'm certainly not calling a magazine a "clip". :D

I haven't even determined yet if mine is for Largo or Luger. Think I'll go check in a minute.

I've thought about buying one of these for the kids to shoot. Are they fairly accurate?

The 30MI is really easy to shoot. It is HEAVY. But there is basically no recoil. And you can find them cheap.

I love all my Stars. I was not expecting much from the Star BM, but it is one of my favorite guns to shoot. Star B is fun as well.

Without checking too deeply into it, I think I read somewhere that Star had lots of parts available in the factory, that they assembled into working firearms. Here's my guess on the long mag-

They had frames made for the Largo, because that WAS the Spanish rd. But just as it's been noted that people can swap in barrels, I imagine the factory knew that also. Got a contract for B's (9mm Luger, or what the rest of the world used, and what they would sell to others), so they assembled, stamped, and shipped. If it was factory matched, and tested, it should be fine. The Supers were later in manufacturing than the plain A's and B's, so the rest of the world was standardizing on 9x19... and you can't let good stock go to waste.

I've kept my factory plastic grips in a box, but I also bought some wooden aftermarket grips and they really look nice. I use some O rings to keep the grips tight. Mine are checkered.

I'm sorely tempted by the BMs that are popping up. I love my Super B and my 30MI, and if the quality is comparable, the value at that price is great.

Isudave

Sweet looking Super B! Reminds me a lot of the Model B that I had years ago.
