Starbucks decision on guns in stores

This is good news. I wonder how many starbucks going, anti's are going to be saying to themselves... "It is legal to carry a gun?"

You never know, this reaches a huge crowd and it may make a difference for the better.

The MSM would slant something to be anti- firearm? Nooooo Never...

But another win for us and support from a major company can not hurt. And if some of the fence sitters learn that those with CCW weapons are a good thing maybe we will recruit more members.

Makes me want a coffee.

Even though it's overpriced, I think I'll go get me a Venti Frappe Latte something-or-other to support a business that supports me.

I'd like to think my e-mail supporting their stance, along with all the others, helped Starbucks stick to their guns.

I got a non-committal response from them, but I'm glad to see they did the right thing in the end.

The comments on the MSNBC article are the same - unrestrained hysterics about 'blood in the streets'. I did my part to refute the nonsense and in my little fantasy world, maybe some fence sitter out there will go, "hmmm, maybe they were right to go that route ..."

Im glad to see that did the right thing. Even though I do not like Starbucks coffee (more like Fourbucks or Charrbucks) I am going to patronize them more often just because of this.

I also got a good response back. They basically said that they would support whatever the law was, and not require anything different in their stores. Makes paying $4 for a Cafe Mocha a little easier.

Starbucks asked both gun enthusiasts and gun-control advocates "to refrain from putting Starbucks or our partners into the middle of this divisive issue."

^ nice way of telling Helmke to leave them the hell alone. OC'ers didn't ask them to change a thing, just used their stores as a meeting place. HCI are the ones trying to boss around a private company and tell them what to do on their private land. the nerve of some of these nuts is amazing.

wildyams: clearly, you do not read the comments on any article in the NYTimes on the politics of firearms....

There, the off-the-wall comments outnumber sane (not just progun sane, but rational) comments by about thirty-to-one.

Starbucks stands by Gun Owners

From CBS News:

(AP) Coffee chain Starbucks Corp. is sticking to its policy of letting customers carry guns where it's legal and said it does not want to be put in the middle of a larger gun-control debate.

The company's statement, issued Wednesday, stems from recent campaign by some gun owners, who have walked into Starbucks and other businesses to test state laws that allow gun owners to carry weapons openly in public places. Gun control advocates have protested.

The fight began heating up in January in Northern California and has since spread to other states and other companies, bolstered by the pro-gun group OpenCarry.org.

Some of the events were spontaneous, with just one or two gun owners walking into a store. Others were organized parades of dozens of gun owners walking into restaurants with their firearms proudly at their sides.

Now, gun control advocates are protesting the policy. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, launched a petition drive demanding that the company "offer espresso shots, not gunshots" and declare its coffeehouses "gun-free zones." And Wednesday, that group planned a press conference near Seattle's Pike Place Market, where the first Starbucks cafe opened.

Businesses can choose to ban guns from their premises. And Starbucks said Wednesday that it complies with local laws in the 43 states that have open-carry weapon laws.

"Were we to adopt a policy different from local laws allowing open carry, we would be forced to require our partners to ask law abiding customers to leave our stores, putting our partners in an unfair and potentially unsafe position," the company said in its statement.

It said security measures are in place for any "threatening situation" that might occur in stores.

Starbucks asked both gun enthusiasts and gun-control advocates "to refrain from putting Starbucks or our partners into the middle of this divisive issue."

Yeah, especially MSNBC. Never would have expected that.

I've been impressed with Starbucks through this whole media storm. They are one company I would have thought to be anti-gun, but I'll definitely patronize their stares more after their support.

The business of any business is making a PROFIT......not taking sides on political sensitive issues.

Ben & Jerry's is a good example of using your business profile to advance a political agenda. The Dixie Chicks are another example.....while we like to see support where ever we can get it, business's should stay neutral especially if they are publicly offered. Billions are spent to create a corporate image over time. To risk damaged name recognition over the political leanings of some management dweeb is dumb business. Taking sides alienates about half your targeted market.

i think that they probably did it so as to not offend anyone just so they could retain their coffee empire.
they did it for money not because they believe in CC.

Bought a Starbucks double espresso the other morning and told the guy making it the reason was the corporate stance to follow whatever local law was instead of imposing some other state/city law on every store. He hadn't heard and returned my tip saying, "Thanks for the information".

Poor Paul, he's about to be KO'd by the Supreme Court in June and now Starbuck's basically tells him to leave them alone/pound sand, lmao. Hopefully we are close to burying this jack-ass for good.

:what: I'm gladly surprised and will return to Starbuck's to have a coffee...

I'll even try to be patient during order for the "...triple half-cafe decaf re-caffed with soy de-soyed milk substitute, a showing of ginger, a presence of cinnamon, and a shadow of vanilla, with two pumps of non-flavor liquid, whipped cream and make sure it's extra hot...oh and for love of all things sacred and holy don't forget the chocolate sprinkles!!! (actually heard the extra hot part more than once)

My order is so boring: medium black coffee, to go, please.

Based on how they've handled this I'll visit on occasion.

Enjoy your caffeine,

Exactly. Same as that great "charity" campaign they do during the holidays, where they donate a laughable 5 cents per specialty coffee sold. Given a coffee like that costs between 4 and 5 bucks, they're donating at most 1/80th of the cost and giving YOU the generous contributor a hefty cup of sugar with a splash of coffee and a big ol' pat on the back! It's all just marketing.
