I decided to put a couple other projects on the back burner for now and go ahead with a 10/22 build I have had in mind for a while. Talked to my local Class III and ordered a Thompson Zephyr XL can. I debated going integral as the cost would be about the same as with the can I will have to buy a barrel but I decided the ability to use the can on other firearms outweighed it's disadvantages.
I currently have a donor 10/22 for the receiver but will need a barrel, and here in lies a bit of a difficult choice. A standard barrel is going to be rifled 1 in 16 however to really take advantage of the suppressor I am thinking of sticking strictly to sub-sonic ammo, in particular the Aguila 60gr SSS Super Sniper. Yes it is more expensive but it has a great rep in barrels rifled for it. So I have narrowed thr barrel choice to the E. Arthur Brown 1 in 9 threaded barrel.
The stock also had me thinking. I have looked at so many the mind boggles but I keep coming back to the AR concept. Nordic Components makes a 10/22 chassis made of aluminum (unlike the plastic Archangel). This chassis will accept any standard AR buttstock, forend, and grip. I will use a standard fixed Ar stock and grip for now as I already have them on hand...may change them out later.
For the trigger I will use a Hornet Custom Steel, I have shot their triggers before and really do like them.
Of course this will all leave me with the 10/22 I built up for my ex in pieces, I will get a new receiver and bolt for it but I think she will enjoy shooting the suppressed rifle just fine till I get it done.
