State Gun Rights Groups

I'm on the board of the Wisconsin Rifle and Pistol Association, as well as the founder of the group formerly known as the WCCA.

There's a concerted effort to form a statewide umbrella group. I really hope we can pull this off.

I'm just curious. I know Ohio has a couple of active groups, Virgnia does, you guys up in Wisconsin, etc. But I don't hear much about other areas. Since I really believe the best chance for improvements is on a state level, I'm surprised..and hoping they're out there and active and just relatively quiet.

Here in Michigan, we have the opposite problem..there are about 4 different groups. One was taken over by union thugs and run into the ground, one is a for-profit kind of deal I'm not completely clear on, the other is a good group of people, but not politically active, and then the group I belong to, which does other things, like our annual family day, but mostly focuses on firearms rights and legislation. There's off and on talk about the last two merging, but I dunno if or when that will take place.

But too many is better than none at all, I guess.

I'm wondering if there would be any benefit to creating an email list or something similar for independent state-level organizations to share ideas and solutions, maybe even share some events cross-borders..we've discussed doing some sort of seminar with people from Ohio on each state's concealed carry laws.

You'll notice that when it comes to talking about "battleground" states, MD is the top of the list. I've talked personally with Peter Hamm, Sarah Brady, and Casey Anderson about this. They freely admit that they see MD as their last redoubt and their best hope to get trial balloons like this year's AWB passed.

Their strategy--straight from their mouths, mind you--is to make progress in MD and use it as a launching pad for efforts in other states.

Make no mistake--what's passed here in MD this year will be on the agenda in YOUR state next year.

So it's no surprise we have a few dedicated groups like AGC, MSI, Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Assoc, and others fighting the fight here. I'm all for such a list where we can share ideas for improving our odds for success.

I think I'll do that. I know Kentucky also has an active state group.

Any ideas on the best way to do this? We use Yahoo Groups for instate stuff..sometimes the delivery is sketchy but over all it works well.

What do you mean you haven't heard of your neighbors obtaining victory after victory?:fire: Just in the past year, the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association has been instrumental in, e.g., passing Lifetime carry licenses, codifying the no duty to retreat judicial rulings, and reversing the state park carry ban. How could you not hear about our activity?:scrutiny:

Of course, this is just typical, in 1987 when Florida passed its "first in the nation" CCW reform we had been carrying for over 50 years. In 1996 when carrying a gun was invented in Texas we had been carrying for over 60 years. In 2005 when Florida had become the "first in the nation" to abolish the duty to retreat, we in Indiana had not had such a duty for over 130 years. You think we would be used to being ignored.:D

Come fight with use at the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association. We attack while others play defense. http://www.isrpa.org/

You'd think living 10 miles from your wonderful state, I'd know that, eh? I'm such a slacker. :)

I don't know if slacker is correct or just like everyone else. When I travel it seems like no one knows what goes on here and the victories we are scoring.

I have been repeatedly asked in Arizona or Texas if one can carry a gun in Indiana.:scrutiny: I tell them yes, and then they tell me how their state was the first in the nation to pass CCW reforrm.:uhoh:

Indiana just needs a better Chamber of Gunmerce.:D

Mostly here in Michigan we're just aware that our jobs are going to your state.

We have a Canadian here we could send you to fix that situation. Let us know, we'll send her on down.

MSI = Marylandshallissue.org

AGC = Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore.

Both great groups doing a lot of good work in Maryland.

ISRA and Champaign County Rifle Association. Jim.

I hope to see all of you March 14 in Springfield for IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day).

A few years back there was an Arkansas Rifle and Pistol group that I was a member of. I think it all fell apart when the main guy got sick. No one stepped up to the plate. I have been wanting to get another group going. Isn't Pilgrm from Arkansas. Hey any of you Arkansas people up to doing this. I will agree to be the secretary and mail and put out the newsletter with my own money. I am not a good speaker. I have got the time. Let me know.

Can you elaborate on the four groups here and their stance on things? I thought I only knew of two in MI...MCRGO & MGO.

Feel free to PM/e-mail if you'd like

Thanks!

Buckeye Firearms Association

I am one of the 15 leaders of Buckeye Firearms Association!

We are Ohio's foremost gun rights organization! We were instrumental along with the NRA in getting HB347 passed, our CCW fix it Bill. We work hand in hand with the Legislature to get good gun laws passed.

We are VERY PROUD of our efforts!:D
