What autos are currently on the market that are steel framed and chambered in 40 S&W that aren't 1911 designs? I'm hoping to find a used 3rd generation Smith, but what quality steel framed guns are currently available new?
CZ handguns and some of their clones come to mind, including the Baby Eagle and the Witness series.
I don't know if the Hi-Power is still produced in .40S&W, even if you can find one used it occurs to me that the reason you object to the 1911 might be that it's single action.
There are several SIG Sauer pistols [p226 and others] that are steel framed in .40 S&W. Go to their catalog and look at the weights of the same model. Heavier weights equal steel frames.
I didn't ask because I'm opposed to SA autos, just that I'm interested in trying something new. All the polymer guns are starting to look alike to me.
It seems that the previously well-kept secret of the S&W 3rd generation autos isn't as well kept as it used to be. There aren't many 4006's on the used market that I can find. I may have to try a CZ or one of the EAA guns.
