Stevens 311a.. 2 hands & a knee to open

I have heard that you can solve this problem by replacing the hammer springs with those from a ruger vaquero.

If this is so.... can anyone show, with pictures, how one fixes this problem.

Also, what springs do I need to buy?

Rather than replace the springs, I would try to determine the cause of the problem. Are the firing pins dragging on the shell? Does the gun need cleaning? A stevens 311 should not be that hard to open.

I agree, all of mine drop open with no problem. And if you do have to replace the springs, take it to a smith. Trust me.
