I have a old Stevens bolt action shotgun I have been piddling around with. Just trying to get it back into shooting shape. Refinishing the stock and trying to fix a broken bolt assembly. I have a bolt body for it and all the parts i need. But first i have to remove the old parts from the bolt body. My problem is i can't figure out how to remove the mainspring retaining clip. Attached is a drawing of the clip from a schematic and a photo of the clip in place in the bolt assembly. Anyone know how to go about removing it. I know there is a way, i just can't see it. I would take it to a gun smith but since i already have about three times what the gun will be worth when i finish in it, I would rather not.
Thanks for any help. 20190919_153503.jpg 20190919_152923.jpg 20190919_153503.jpg 20190919_152923.jpg 20190919_153503.jpg

I'm trying to do the same thing. Look at the interior of the bolt from the end using a flashlight. I see two round pins? that appear to be part of the Eclip we need to remove. I have tried to push those down to release them but since they need to be pushed at the same time it will take a special tool to accomplish that. I haven't found one and don't have the equipment to make one. Good luck. This was my first gun received as a birthday present in about 1957 from my parents.

I don't know if we are taking about the same thing or not. If the two pins are part of the clip. Don't push on the pins. Push between them. The only thing holding the clip in is pressure from the spring.
Release the pressure and the clip should just about fall out. I put a pin punch into my drill press. Stood the bolt on end and used the press to push down. It was really hard for me to do without the press. Hope that helps.
