Stop me before I buy a Taurus... Must resist...

I understand that TARUS has a Liftime Warrenty. What does that mean?

Over the years I have bought 6 Taurus revos NIB and had to return three of them to the factory to get the things made "right"! In each case it literally took me months to get Taurus to do what it promised to do. The Lifetime Warranty? It means that it takes a lifetime to get Taurus to follow through. Simply the worst customer service I have ever encountered. No more Taurus products for me. Life (my life) is just too doggone short.:cuss:

I don't own a Taurus but if I were going to own one I can pretty much say it would be a 24/7. I like the fact that if the gun misfires the firing pin will attempt to fire the same cartridge, giving the shooter a second chance of hitting the primer, or something to that extent. I also like how you can lock the slide and such. From what I read about it last year its suppose to be a pretty fail safe piece and I haven't heard any negatives about it. Taurus isn't a high end brand, its just a gun company in Brazil, but I've had my eyes on that 24/7 for a while. Too bad its illegal to own in California. God I hate this state.

I've owned a PT92 for years. Put thousands of rounds though it. Some people have horror stories. Others have success. Same as any manufacturer. But you can't go wrong with Taurus IMO. I'll quote their marketing: "Affordable Quality."

I saw the 24/7s in my local shop just the other day. Man was it comfortable in my hand. Nice. But I've got my eyes set on it's little cousin, the PT145.

I've had a PT140 mil-pro for almost a year and it hasn't failed yet, though I only have about 1000 rounds through it. It's my everyday carry gun and my 4th Taurus handgun. I did have a problem with a revolver and had to send it back - their customer service over the phone was not helpful but I sent it in and got it back in 22 days door to door, fixed right. I don't think you'd be disappointed, either.

FWIW...

I own 2 of the 45's and love them! I carry one everyday.

Heres a little eye candy from the range. 12 shots at 14 yards

So Mike- is that outshooting your pt1911? One contiguous hole at 14 yards is pretty good!

(video was creepy- like what you watch in an employment orientation or something)

Nice.

So let me know if you ever want to hit PSC with me one morning- because now you have me really interested.

Sorry

Sorry, but I can't talk you out of a 24/7, as I think they are good guns. I would not let the customer service issue bother me. I have a Mil Pro PT145 and I love it. Never a problem. I also used to have a M605 .357 and never had a problem with it. So, my two Taurii have been good. I've never really had to deal with CS.

Here's how I see it... The warranty is for the lifetime of the gun (except the finish, which is one year), so if it ever malfunctions I can send it back to Taurus. MY Taurus firearms are not my only carry guns, and so, if Taurus keeps it for a month or two, so what? I'll eventually get it back and it'll work fine.

But, Taurus sells a LOT of pistols and so it doesn't surprise me that there is some negative feedback on the brand. In fact, I read negative comments about just about every manufacturer, with the possible exception of Ruger. Yes, even Glocks and XDs have their issues. And, Lord forbid you do a search on Kimber and Springfield 1911s! You'll be reading for a while about all of the issues.

But, you have to weed through the "I hear that..." or "My friend had..." or the "My fifteenth cousing on my mom's side had a..." problems that you read. Take the word of people who either have, or have had, Taurus guns.

Also, consider visiting the www.Taurusarmed.net forum and read some information there. Either way, I think the 24/7 is a good gun, and I highly recommend it. If it fits your hands, and your budget, buy it.

Handguns are just like pickup trucks and pocket knives... everybody has a strong opinion. If you ask, "what is wrong with Chevy's", you will get a firestorm of complaints from Ford owners... many who have never even sat in a Chevy. Taurus handguns are very fine. The price is right. I have a PT 145 Mil-Pro with 22,000 rounds through it, without a single problem. I have a Glock that jammed on the second mag. I shall not talk about my bla*x#ap Kimber. A Colt that never even made it through a magazine, and another Colt that My father has had for 55 years without a problem (and many thousands of rounds). It is all a crap-shoot... so don't be swayed by the doom-sayers. If it feels good, get it! (I am currently thinking of a CZ 75B 9mm). After all... it will at least make you better informed. My latest buy is a 1911 WW1 Repro Colt. I have heard all kinds of negative things about it from people on THR, but I tend to ignore the mean comments. I will shoot it this weekend, even though I wanted to save it as unfired... I just cannot resist shooting such a beauty. I currently have 3 trucks... a Ford Ranger, a GMC dually, and a Dodge dually. Don't get me started on which is better... this could get nasty.

buy the taurus

i carry a 24/7 in 45, my wife a pt140 pro. my 5 gallon bucket of brass is 4" deep from them two guns. still no failures of any type.

I've got the 9mm XD in 4". It's a good gun, but I mostly bought it because it's a Springfield.

I didn't even consider the 24/7, mainly because I always seem to buy guns on impulse.

If you buy the Taurus, any Taurus, you will spend the rest of your life apologizing, explaining, and justifying it.

When you own a Smith, Colt, SIG, or like weapon, nothing further needs to be said. These guns speak for themselves.

I will never apologize, or try to explain away, or feel the need to justify having purchased my Taurus PT111 Pro. I love this little pistol, it is accurate, reliable, wonderfully ergonomic and well built. So, what further needs to be said about my choice to own a Taurus?

I own a Taurus PT1911 & a Tracker Revolver in 45 ACP. They are both very fine firearms. I'm not afraid to buy another Taurus & will get S/S PT when I can find one.

Ok I am here to defend the Taurus 24/7. I own two .40 cal and have never had a failure of any type. I have thousands of rounds through both of them. I have two Springfield XD .45acp, same story-never a failure of any kind. If the Taurus fits your hand, buy it, you will never regret it! They are very well made handguns with features you usually find in more expensive guns. There is none of this break in period crap that other guns even advertise. They are totally reliable and functional right out of the box. You will really enjoy the Taurus 24/7. Take Care, have a good weekend!

The best to you and Yours!

I have two Taurus guns, and have owned a PT140, I had to send the 85 back right out of the box. The cylinder would not turn when the hammer was pulled back. It took them 5 weeks, and 4 calls from me to get it back. The sheet said the cylinder was replaced, but I do not think they did. There Customer Service is horrible, It is like the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing, and the left is jerking off instead of fixing guns!!

Anyhow, I love my PT145, it was between it and the new XD45 compact, but the $200 price difference made that decision easier!!

I have heard many of the horror stories. I have a 24/7 pro 40sw. Have put some thousand rounds, 500 wolf rounds through it. Never missed once. I have not had any trouble with the customer service, simply because I haven't had to use it at all. Go for it!!! I especially like the grip, one of the best I have had.

Go with what feels best in your hand. I happen to have an XD45 Compact which I really like, however I shot a SIG P220 which I liked just as well, it just happened there is a couple hundred dollars difference in price and the XD is a double stack just barely wider than the SIG.

While I don't have a Taurus semi-auto I have handled many of them and like the feel of all of them, just don't like the way some of them look but looks have nothing to do with shootability. I do have a Taurus revolver, a model 441, 44SP with a 6" barrel which I REALLY like. Just wish I'd gotten it with the 4" barrel instead of the 6" because a 4" would make a nice CCW.

Don't pay much attention to the complaints you read on most forums. I learned long ago it is the person with problems who makes the most noise, and you very seldom hear from those with no problems. Even when there is a thread on a forum where the pros far outway the cons for some reason people pay more attention to the complainers. If Sigs, Glocks, Colts, Springers, XDs, Kimbers, etc. were as bad as some people make them out to be none of these companies would still be in business. As for customer service most companies seem to go in cycles. It wasn't too many years ago when Taurus CR was some of the best in the business but 'heaven help you' if you had to deal with S&W.

What it all boils down to is you have to listen to what people say weigh the pros/cons, decide if a complaint is really due to the customer or the factory, then make up your own mind. If the gun feels good in your hand and is within your budget buy it. If it turns out you don't like it you can always trade it on something else or sell it. If you have problems and like the gun then you find out for yourself what the mfg's CR is like.
