I have tried to get some of you guys to try the new autowaxes, like 2000 washes or Nu-tone. If you coat your firearms, stocks, outside metal, and even the bore, you will not have any problems with rust...none. I came up with this in SE Texas when I was at my wits end fighting rust on my guns. After trying all of the rust preventatives on the market at that time, and resorting to thick layers of oil, this worked. this is that miracle you have all been looking for, with no side effects.

I can't find nu-tone or nutone wax using google. I can find Nu Finish, the stuff in the orange bottle that Consumer Reports thought so much of 20 years ago.

I've used other waxes on guns for years.

Well, I've tried the original Johnson's on brass cases without much success. After a couple of weeks in a periodically humid environment, the grunge starts to return. Not exactly inspiring performance based on an initial cleaning with Flitz, then a wipe on and wipe off of the wax.

I must be missing something.

John, you are correct and I called it wrong, it is Nu-finish.

RnR, Johnsons wax doesn't work and it also has a fine grit in it that you don't want.

I tried the Johnsons based on a general recommendation by another THR member who extolled it's virtues trying to get the rest of us to recognize the value of some of the older products still on the store shelves.

Admittedly, I sure do like the aroma... reminds me of Mom doing the kitchen floor in days gone by!

I just wipe down my firearms and other metal equipment with Tuf-Glide. It dries and leaves a protective coating on it. Right now I'm working in the Smoky Mountains which is a borderline rain forest and I haven't had any rust problems. All the other officers have rusty grip screws and lord knows what else, my Sig is prestine and my grip screws too.

Eezox is my CLP of choice, but I find "Blue Wonder Armadillo" to be the best rust protection I have used. It's also an excellent dry lube. I carry H+K P7s IWB tucked and if you think old Browning shotguns rust easily, try one of these workhorses. The "Armadillo" is a pain to apply, but the performance has been spectacular for me.

There are a number of products out there that work wonderfully. I use plain old automatic transmission fluid.
