Greetings all. Just wondering how the strength of the Remington Model 14 and Win 1894 compares to the Marlin 336 action.
Plenty of people reload for the 336 in 30-30 and 35 Rem at higher pressures. Even the Ramshot load data I have shows loads in the range of 38000psi for 35 rem.

I don't really have experience with the Win 1894 or the Model 14.

I for one think it is a bad idea to load hotter than factory or Saami published data. You old rifle may hold up but wear and tear can't be good for it. If you want something hotter buy something else. There's plenty to choose from.

Based on the apparent stoutness of the locking surfaces, I would say Win 94 first, then Remington, then Marlin.
But the Remington wins on coolness alone

I would guess that the Remington is the strongest. It only has one locking lug, but it's a big one and it locks up directly behind the chamber Both levers feature a locking surface three inches behind the chamber and the dreaded (largely mythical, I think) S t r e t c h comes into play.

I wouldn't try hot rodding any of the three, speaking for myself

Lots of people have hot rodded 336 actions with good success. The Win 94 Big Bore models are stronger than 336s. I’m unsure about the standard 94s.

I know nothing about the Rem 14.
