Students suspended over snowballs

"bringing dangerous objects to school — snowballs."

Were they concealed or holstered in public view? Hollow snowballs or solid points? Did the students have an arsenal of snowballs or just the one weapon? :D Did they plan a snowball overthrow or just a single attack? ;)

Snow in Riverside CA ...? What did they do, bring it down from the Sierras in an ice chest

Unless the authorities store the "weapons" very carefully, I predict the case will be dropped for "lack of evidence" ;)

it's clear that they are guilty!

Unauthorized fun is dangerous to developing minds.
Our government indoctrination centers must insist on conformity.
IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN!
:barf:

Gee I hope.......

those were not imported snowballs....... This could be federal charges if they don't have the appropriate # of US made snowflakes !!!! :what:

Next they wont even let you wear steel toe boots to school because they could hurt someone..

Actaully it was the high capacity snowball magazine, with a detachable pistol grip not suitable for sporting purposes.

Seniors Michael Sepulveda and Daniel Zavala, the snowball co-conspirators, made a pre-dawn run to the San Bernardino Mountains to fill their pickup trucks with snow and bring it to school for what they hoped would turn into an annual "bring Big Bear to Riverside" ritual.

They were suspended after a school parking lot snowball fight before the start of classes Thursday.

Principal Mike Neece said one of his most important responsibilities is maintaining a safe, orderly learning environment.

"Anything that disturbs that or disrupts that is inappropriate on a school campus," Neece said. "Anything that could cause injury, or could cause a student to get upset and instigate a fight, or damage students' personal property is just inappropriate behavior."

Zavala and Sepulveda were stunned.

"The school overdid it. In the handbook it does not say, 'Do not bring snow to school,'" Zavala said Thursday afternoon.

"It's snow," Sepulveda said.

Savala's mother Martha Valdez called the boys' actions "harmless" but said she supported the decision by school officials.

"They're still there to mandate the rules, and they have to draw the line somewhere."

I've seen kids threated with suspension in public school for having their hair in cut in a "Mohawk". Had to shave their head to return to class.
Coloring your hair applies. Not loud colors. We're talking blond, and auburn red here. Tatoos. Any body piercing other than an earing - same "distraction" clause is used. I take that back, sometimes earings too. On the upper ear - no no no.

Our Alabama public school (considered the "better" school in the area) has been under brain dead management for years.

Principal pre-approves team jackets - only to disallow their use on campus after the kids receive them.

On... and on... and on. They are awful and downright hurtful to the children they are supposedly educating. The only lesson they are teaching is how to be brain-dead stupid while tenured and "in charge". They espouse their private political/social agendas (If you haven't taken the time lately, ask your high school child what political views the teacher "talked" about to the class today. You may be STUNNED).

The only thing they've taught these kids is how to be subversive.

My daughter graduates in a matter of weeks. Thank Goodness and good riddance.

From my reading of the article...

they weren't suspended for the snow but for the snowball fight. From the article: "They were suspended after a school parking lot snowball fight before the start of classes Thursday."

While there isn't enough information to tell for sure, I'd bet it wasn't a case of two groups of willing participants. I'd bet it was the two snowmen and their friends pelting those of lower social status.

To selectively suggest they were suspended for simply bringing snowballs on campus is quite misleading...but I guess any excuse to bash public education will suffice.

Aha! The old high capacity ban again ... I'm sure they had more than ten snowballs in each pickup ;)

Worse yet, the pickups might have had fully automatic transmissions :p

That is hysterical! We all know that those of lower social status are far more susceptible to being hit with snow balls! It is a scourge of Western, white, male capitalism.:scrutiny:

I have to disagree with everyone!!

Clearly snowballs are not on the approved list of weapons that one can have in California. Furthermore, these kids are not 21 or older and therefore cannot even legally own these weapons!!!

They should be thrown in jail for a very long time to teach them and other kids that this type of behavior cannot be condoned!!!

Nope...

It's in the nature of teenagers. If a group of teenagers has a way to pick on another teenager they view as being of lower social status...they will.

Neece or Nice?

There's an old saying, "Boys will be boys." Obviously, that has to be revised to "Boys used to be boys."

Public educators are determined to exterminate any vestige of The Warrior from boys and young men. How long will it be before any sign of "aggression" will put you on the terrorist list for a lifetime?

In my opinion all they are doing is creating the potential for an over-reaction of the opposite kind down the road.

They failed to mention these were depleted S.N.O.W. rounds. Those sabots will take out the "short bus" just as sure as they will an APC. Good work guys!
