Have a pretty much stock Hi power, 9mm, made in 2001. Probably close to 1k rounds with no issue.
Now the slide is locking back after a few rounds. Not touching it with grip, made sure.
Also, when the slide is locked back, it does not close by sling shot method. The slide release must be depressed.
It is always thoroughly cleaned after use. Slide stop looks ok but I picked up a used one and swapped them, but same think is happening.

Use both mec gar and browning.
Has to be an issue with the slide release. With the slide locked back, NO magazine, it should release and let the slide move forward.

Check the BB at the back of the guide rod - it is responsible for pushing the slide stop down and away from the slide. The BB must protrude about 1/3 in the opening, it is under spring pressure and should move freely when pressed, but with sufficient force.

Part (recoil spring guide rod) came. Swapped it out. Perfect function. Slide closes, magazines are perfect.
Noticed that the old one, the ball/spring were a little sluggish.

Thanks all for a perfect diagnosis!

Whew, glad that fixed it. This one goes into the reference repository. Excellent diagnosis Mizar and beeenbag. Impressed, indeed!
